Of course they all have several things in common.

The heavyweight champion who is also a knockout artist.

Nevertheless, I’ve been watching them the last couple of days and I’ve noticed when they eventually lose, not only do they lose but they tend to get thrashed.

People make a lot out of Tyson Douglas but it wasn’t some close decision, Tyson only won one round and though there was a knockdown in it, Tyson took a savage beating through the other rounds.

Clay was picked by only 3 out of 46 sportswriters to beat Liston but once the fight started he clearly “outclassed” Liston.

Foreman vs Ali was the closest of the three but even that was pretty one sided, the difference in hand speed was readily apparent throughout.

They got clearly beaten, but "thrashed" is a bit of an overstatement.

Tyson took a beating, but he lasted until round 10 and put Douglas on his arse. Buster arguably got saved by a long count.

Ali - Foreman was close while it lasted and Ali took some serious punishment in the process.

The scorecards were as close as they come when Liston quit on his stool. Nick Tosches made an interesting case for Liston's throwing both Ali fights in "Night Train", and the phantom punch definitely looks fishy. I guess we'll never know.

Fair enough to your comments on the two other fights.

With regards to the Liston fight though, Joe Louis said on commentary “Clay completely outclassed Sonny Liston in this round” after the first.

The only reason it was close was because Liston cheated.

Ali took serious punishment? He barely had a scratch.

I agree Liston was outclassed. Tyson was not 100% prepared but he should have still beaten Douglas. Tyson said he subconsioussly wanted to get it over with, all the pressure. He had a great run and other things were bothering him at this point.

Foreman had the boxing ability to beat Ali but was the victim of blind rage and overconfidence. He didn't box like he did against other resiliant opponents. Foreman just bullrushed and punched himself out on body shots. Connected Ali to the face too, but they were few and far in between. Ali also surprised Foreman by going toe to toe with him and outboxed him close quarters! Still think if Foreman employed the jab more and calmed down, he would have decent chances.

Interesting.
wow it's almost as if Ali had become near synonymous with a horrific, boxing induced disease.

Damn Hagler, how did you miss Ali totally not having Parkinsons?

Punchers are too reliant on power and don't know how to adjust when their power doesn't carry the day for them.

Liston, Foreman, and Tyson all had a fair bit of craft to go with their punching power.
