Ive been thinking about this one lately and every time I come up with Lebron right now is playing better than Kobe played at his best. Kobe's career speaks for itself and I wont even attempt to argue against that. That is better left for after they are both done. I just dont remember Kobe ever being hands down the best player in the leauge year after year. The shooting percentage with the volume is really impressive. His abilty to play in the paint now along with his rebounding and passing I think really seperates him from Kobe. Kobe is arguably a better defender and he does have a better clucth reputation but I just think Lebron has turned a corner and reached his potential (or close to it).

Maybe its just the other superstars in the league right now I dont know. Kobe did have to contend with Duncan, Shaq ect early in his career for best in the league and right now Lebron really only has to contend with Durant. Even though I think that helps make Lebron look better compared to the rest of the NBA I still think his level of play right now is better than Ive seen out of Kobe. I think of the late 2000s as Kobe's prime because thats when he was winning titles as the guy winning his MVP and really was just to me at his all around best. Feel free to point out where I am wrong in this. Also not for nothing we cant say for sure that Lebron isnt going to be better next year but he is definately in his "prime" right now.

Well who brought captain obvious? Kobe has never in his life been as dominant as LeGoat has been now going on five seasons. The real question is whether prime LeGoat is greater than prime Jordan.

And I'm not even convinced we've seen LeGoat's peak prime yet. Peak athletic prime, sure, but peak basketball prime -- I'm not so sure.

I'm saying better not more dominant if that makes sense. Before last year almost nobody would have said that Lebron was better than Kobe. He hadn't won shit and had two bad post seasons in a row where he basically played like a bitch. No fucking way was the guy who quit against the Celtics better than Kobe in his prime. Now its a different story to me and I just wonder am I in the majority on this?

Comparing Chris Lebron to Kobe is a bit of a stretch. Sure, he was above average, but whenever he has faced the best, such as Anderson Silva, he hasn't done very well. Oh, wait a second here....

Chris Lebron is the GOAT

seriously though, I think when Lebron is done, he will have surpassed MJ as GOAT.
Jordan is the better scorer of the two, but look at every thing else,

Passing: Lebron
Rebounding: Lebron
Defense: Tied, Jordan was more on ball, Lebron is a bit more off ball and on help D, plus MJ couldnt guard big forwards like LBJ

The 2010 Playoffs LeBron averaged 29/9/8 followed by 24/8/6 in the 2011 Playoffs. Not exactly playing like a bitch lol

And when did he give up vs the Celtics? Game 7 of that series when he put up 27 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists with a turrible supporting cast? LeBron's struggle vs Dallas in the 2011 Finals was more of a team failure than LeBron's. Not sure how many people watched that series, but Dallas played a zone D and trapped the hell out of LeBron every time he had the ball. Miami's outside shooters couldn't hit anything and Spo had zero adjustment to counter the zone.

LeBron has been a better player than Kobe for a while now.

Pretty sure that was game 5 not game 7...and to answer the TS, yes you are right on this, except Kobe is not "arguably" a better defender, not even in his prime. LeBron is the first player I've ever seen able to defend all 5 positions at an extremely high level.

brb Santi Can let me go grab my magnifying glass

Yea your right I was thinking of Game 5. You remember the game he hung out behind the arc all game couldn't by a shot and wouldnt drive. Maybe I read into the media bullshit too much as Im sure Jordan and Kobe or whoever else sucked many games. Again the media with the failures of late game in Miami in year one. His numbers and talent were always awesome, but I saw him as I see the Big O prior to now. Hey maybe thats not his or Oscar's fault that the teams they played on werent as good as the top teams even with them. At least in this thread this seems to be news to nobody. Whenever I see those top 10 lists though its Kobe on them not Lebron.

Like Jordan said, Kobe has without a doubt had the more accomplished career at this point than LeBron. So Kobe will currently be higher on the all-time lists. I think Kobe coming into the league in 1996 has everything to do with that though since player for player, LeBron is on another level imo and has been for five seasons now.

Imagine if LeBron was in Kobe's place on the Lakers since '96; how many rings does he have by now? Would that 5 game sweep vs the Pistons in 2004 have ever happened? Would Shaq have been traded for pennies on the dollar that following offseason?

Yea I'm kinda feeling like I just realized something that was obvious. Championships just gets such a premium though. I do think they would have won with Shaq and Lebron in your scenerio, I cant just give them the titles though. I would say they could have won 5 but maybe they only win 2 who the fuck knows.

Lebron is the better player, and has been for the last 4 years. He will have had the better career, and be ranked higher on the All-Time list when it's all said and done.

prime jordan > prime bryant > prime james.

prime bryant was scoring 35 per game, 81 in a single game.
