Styles make fights. I think prime Jacare would have been a good fight for Khamzat. There isn't many ground specialists at MW and since burns made Khamzat strike for a whole fight maybe Jacare would have prevented him to spam TD's

Jacare, easy. Prime Jacare was a nightmare for just about anyone. Unfortunately, he just couldn't solve the judges.

People blinded by nostalgia. Prime Jacare almost got KTFO by Robbie Lawler and took 3 rounds to submit him. Khamzat is the best grappler the sport of MMA has ever seen

We can watch this fight if they ever book Robocop vs Khamzat

I will get flamed for this but flame on: I think Jacare's guard was highly overrated in MMA. He doesn't have a single submission from guard over an impressive opponent and as much as I hate Khamzat, I don't think Jacare is the "immediate threat" from guard that everyone always said he was. Go watch his fight against the lowly Francis Carmont and tell me he wouldn't get completely smashed with ground and pound against Khamzat.

Members of the online MMA community always had a raging hard-on with fighters who had "an active guard" (even if they had the absolute worst takedown defense like Condit) but it's not the early days of MMA when BJJ was some "secret weapon" lol... how often do you ever see a triangle or armbar end a fight in a high level fight anymore??

Werdum is one of the only fighters I can think of that was a constant threat if you were in his guard. Not only that, he had tremendous control and rarely took any damage if someone was on top (watch the Gonzaga rematch for this) which is something Jacare struggled with when strikes were involved.

Now, as someone posted above, Khamzat was afraid to go to the ground with an undersized Burns so maybe this would be a pure striking match in which case Jacare has a lot of power, good cardio, and a pretty solid chin to potentially carry him into the later "gas out" rounds but his ground game "advantage" is frequently overstated in MMA IMHO (as it is with many others now that BJJ defense is universally trained).

Would still be pulling for Jacare though 100% if they fought. His UFC career was such an utter disappointment considering how they wasted his time with so many cans. He should have been an immediate title contender but that was a messy time at MW

Or the matchmakers. He could'e easily beaten Bisping when he had the belt. But they had to let Hendo, who was 46-years old and 3-6 in his prior 9 fights a shot. Then it was a lifelong WW who was on a 4-year layoff...who finished Bisping.

You may have a valid point but as you said, Khamzat didn't even want to go to the ground with a former LW in Burns. Ironically, Jacare was won of the only fighters Yoel willingly took down and went to the ground with. Of course Yoel won and didn't get submitted, but it was a close fight. I think Jacare peaked around 2013 when he beat the brakes off Mousasi on the ground and on the feet. That version would be a huge handful for Khamzat.

Khamzat admitted that he was too afraid to go on the ground with Burns, what would his strategy be with Jacare?
Probably a dominant first round, and if he couldn't finish Jacare, pray that he could brawl with him on the feet and eeke out a decision like he did vs. Burns and Usman. I think prime Jacare was a better and more technical striker. Early Jacare was more of a BJJ purist who was kind of clueless on the feet, but he definitely improved by the time he got to the UFC.

Lets see Khamzat a few more times at MW then we can say someting about it

Khamzat, jacare was nowhere near as good for his back as he was on top

Agreed. It is painful how many match-ups we missed in that era because of injuries. He could easily have been champ if a few external factors were different

And Robbie Ko'd Manhoef who KO'd Mark Hunt who KO'd a bunch of HWs....

Jacare also refined his game, especially striking, after that.
Yeah robbie had a monster punch. He had that Hendo strength and could KO anyone with a well placed overhand

The Jacare who killed Mousasi was no thing to play with

That's a good point. We knew he was an offensive juggernaut for a few minutes, but the Rob win didn't answer a ton of questions. We know that he can still perform well if he's able to take his opponent off guard. Time will tell on the rest.
