Prime bs

Its amazing really this kind of stupidity still exists when we've now seen UFC hyped fighters like Cain and JDS decline by their early 30's.

The hold UFC hype has on some poster here really is massive though and I suspect admiting this to themselves would be too big a hit to their ego to take.

There’s a myth created by Pride fans that fighters are in their prime in their 20’s and they like to back it up by the age of Olympic gold medalists. A lot of Olympic sports are mostly based on athleticism and less on skill and they are mostly amateur athletes.

The closest major sports to MMA in terms of athletics and skill necessarily would be boxing, NFL, basketball, tennis and football.

The best boxers:
Fury 32
Wilder 35
AJ 31

NFL:
Tom Brady 43

Basketball:
LeBron James 36
Durant 32

Tennis:
Novak 33
Nadal 34
Federer 39

Football:
Ronaldo 36
Messi 33

UFC champs right now:
Stipe 38
Jan 37
Izzy 31
Usman 33
Khabib 32
Volkanovski 32
Yan 28
Figgy 33

Can this baseless shit argument die already?

This information might be interesting if you didn't have to create a strawman fallacy just to come up with a thread topic: it's already pretty much universally agreed upon that (especially in MMA) your prime is from your late 20's to early 30's.
Also, you don't use any nuance in your argument, as OBVIOUSLY champs can, were, and are in their "primes" on their path to the belt (i.e., before becoming champ). How do think they became champ? By *not* being in their prime?

Jon looked his best ever in his 2 prior to that ( DC 2, Gus 2). He easily outclassed Smith cruising at 30%, clearly beat Santos and only really struggled with Reyes. At that mostly could be because of Reyes size. Jon isn’t at his best fighting long fighters. Styles make fights
Jones was also at his juiciest in Gus 2 and DC 2 <6>

Bones was leaking steroids from every orifice on his way to the octagon, I wish we could see this version of him again at HW.

There is a difference between having 30 mma fights and 100+ Sambo fights by the time you're 30 than starting your career in your 30s... obviously they would have different primes (DC, Fedor). Jon Jones is clearly going out of his prime based on his last 3 fights and he's like 32 but have fought since 20 years old.

Being better than most athlete peers at that age does not mean they are better than they were in their late 20s.

Randy couture won the ufc heavyweight championship at age 43.
George Foreman won the hw championship at 45.
Anderson Silva was on his 10th title defense at age 38.

So age is not a factor at all.

Prime is personal. It's not a measurable thing until after the fighter starts to decline. People here also think prime means unbeatable. This shit is so old and boring now. Goat, p4p, and prime discussions just need to die.

A big issue as well is that a fighters prime is much easier to judge in retrospect when hype and arguements have died down and you can look at a career with a cooler head.

You still have to answer me how are buffons kicking/throwing the ball closest thing related to MMA. And while at it, explain how kicking and/or throwing a ball requires more technique than execute a, for instance, double leg takedown.
And Judo and wrestling are sports nobody cares about, despite being excellent base for MMA?
What are you even then doing on this forum lol
the financial incentives of staying on top in judo and wrestling are different and that in part makes it more difficult to peak every 4 years for decades.

It does .
Jones and DC didnt wrestle and do MMA at the same time .
Izzy doesn't kickbox and participate in MMA simultaneously .
Because they cant .
Competing in 2 sports at the same time is too hard for them .
But Fedor did .
c'mon. fedor was competing in combat sambo. he did it on the side. it wasn't overly competitive and it wasn't overly taxing. aleks won titles too.

pulsing traces of a long term metabolite is leaking steroids from every orifice......

these are all EXCEPTIONS or SINGULAR examples. Post the AVERAGE or MEAN AGE of the top competitors or STFU

He didn't take any damage except being knocked out in a kick boxing fight. Fedor was in some wars in Pride and MMA/Sambo wears on your body much more than kickboxing.
HAHAHAHAHHAHAA you really don't know much about kickboxing

I’ve done before. Go look at rankings in every weight class. Mean age for UFC champs is 33,1

Jones was on roids in DC2 and that fight was overturned, he was "pulsing" in Smith fight.
Nothing good there.

Izzy has 100 kickboxing fights and 20 MMA fights, and he isn't slowing down like Fedor did.

Fedor had over 100 Sambo, Judo and Combat Sambo fights.
He started declining after 33 straight wins.

Izzy had 80 kickboxing fights and 20 MMA.
Let us see him fight 10 more fights, where he fights guys bigger than him, like Fedor did
and then return to that discussion.
