I'm not going to compare the 35 yo Anderson to Rumble, DC, or Gustafsson, because they belong to different periods of time.

Just looking at Anderson's performance against Cormier, who arguably is one of the actual best fighters in the world, i wondered how well he could have done against the likes of Rashad, Rampage, Shogun.. Jorge Rivera said in an interview that when Pride Anderson was growing, he was coming on top against Wanderlei in training at Chute Boxe..

Now, i was surprised of what a 41 yo, coming off a broken leg, a surgery, with no camp, could do to the best LHW (Jon, get you shit togetheeeer). Makes me curious about what he could have accomplished, had he went up a weightclass more often..

Andy is awesome.

But people are making too much of one shitty DC performance.

Early 30s Anderson probably could've been LHW champ imo. Doubt he'd get 10 defenses though.

Cormier had a full camp and Anderson got off the couch from playing FIFA on Xbox. That's not insignificant.

It is insignificant. Since DC holds the belt, and Andy is back on retirement/limbo.

Don't get me wrong. I was rooting for Andy. But let's not make it anymore than what it is... a nice performance in an insignificant fight with no meaningful outcome other than giving Andy fans something to smile about, me included.

He gets destroyed. There is a reason why in his prime he only fought guys like Forrest, Irvin and Bonnar. A prime Shogun would have killed him hence why he ducked that fight

He wrecked the recent former LHW champion. Beat him worse than any LHW had beaten him at that point.

WRECKED the guy who had finished Shogun, beat Rampage and took two rounds of Rashad before getting caught. And that was slowed-down, post-Cote Anderson, not the all-action BEAST he was in his prime.

Prime Andy owns LHW even easier than he owned MW. Fact.

Holy shit, Perrichet discrediting Anderson Silva. Now I've seen it all.

He would have beaten every LHW ever bar Jones in his prime. The way he did against DC who is heralded as the GOAT LHW after Jones showed me that if he was in prime, had both legs, had a training camp and wasn't shot he would be amazing. He was amazing. Of course he could lose to people but he'd be the favourite over all them I think. Jones excluded

Prime Anderson would have been LHW champ. Possibly a short-reigning champ in the hot potato years, but I'd favor him over the majority of the LHW top ten in his prime. Maybe over all of them.

Man i don't know what Andy did to you in the past.. Maybe your ex girlfriend was secretly in love with him and you discovered it later, feeling profoundly cheated in your heart and soul.. The hate is indeed very strong. Literally all you do is shitting on Anderson when the occasion comes

Anderson biggest weakness is wrestling. So as long as guys like DC and Jones are at LHW, he would never beat them past or present. Also Rumble would go ape shit on him and Gus would run circles around him

Ten years younger, he would probably have been LHW champ. I think he would also beat someone like DC. Today he looks shitty against both MWs and LHWs, even if I was surprised he did so good vs DC.

Came in to say the same thing. I think he could have been Champ while Chuck, Rashad, Rampage, Machida and even Jones was, but most likely would not have lasted to defend so many times and make the legendary career he did at MW.

This is one of those topics that will be discussed for years. IMO it is a case where the grass is not always greener. Of course will have some fans claim 'prime Silva' would have dominated LHW for years like he dominated MW for years. We just will never know for sure.

I think Silva would have had trouble with a couple fighters at LHW. Just off the top of my head I can name two buzzsaws in Shogun and Machida. I think Silva's combination of quickness and technique would be enough for Rampage, Liddell, Evans, Ortiz, or Couture, however, one of them winning would not be all too surprising to me.
