Media Pride was NOT better than UFC

Anything in its infancy will always have a special place in people’s hearts. That’s why we love children when they’re babies, we love our dogs when they are puppies. And we love MMA when it was pride.

it wasn’t necessarily better than UFC, but it represents nostalgia and a time when fighters were unknown to the masses, but revered as gods to those who watched the sport.

The sport and the athletes have definitely evolved since Pride. It's been a long time since the company folded. Respectfully, in my opinion the comparison is long dead. UFC wins via longevity.

The lower weight classes have most certainly evolved with speed being a primary asset to success. The higher classes like LHW and HW look no different in skillset than they have in years passed. If you want to watch MMA for the technical brilliance you should be tuning in to LW, BW, FW!

This is like a family squabble for you. Will you be riding with Uncle Chael? Or is your allegiance still to the Pride bloodline?

I wish we could have a GoAT Vs GoAT death match bareknuckle MMA in a ring to determine the true answer to this question. Prime Fedor VS Prime Nnganou or maybe Prime Wanderlei VS Prime Anderson Silva with head stomps allowed too fuck it
Sounds like a video game.

Honestly the best thing about pride was the UFC and Pride were viewed as fairly equal and having 2 orgs at the same level was great for the sport.

I am hopeful we are seeing the other orgs like pfl, one and bellator that at least one might be become serious competition. They are all growing in quality over the last couple of years while the UFC doesn't appear to improving/extending it's lead.

Except they were nowhere close to being equal; Pride was doing 90,000 shows when the UFC struggled to sell 1,000 tickets.

Even when Pride lost their TV deal (which was a considerable amount of their revenue), their champions were still getting paid more than the UFC's champions.

It was more "pure" and more spectacular for sure. Awesome rivalries, crazy entrances, the cheesy but still awesome music, the freak matches, the japanese crowd, the real ring, etc.

Pride was something you can't recreate.

Are fighters better these days? Probably.
But there's more than that, and Pride, as a "full-package", was a better product than the UFC, by a mile, imo.
