Damn right Pride FC in 2002,this was the year I got into it,and if you werent there, man you missed it, you fucked up,I dont know what the fuck you were doin, but it was probably bullshit.

PRIDE 19 :BAD BLOOD

The bad blood is referrin to Don Frye and Ken Shamrock havin mad heat w each other, although it seems like Ken would fight the world at the drop of a hat back then anyway. They had some meeting in the ring w all the fighters to hype the event but you know they just did that so they could get a scuffle, and Ken told Don hes a piece of shit, and he brings peoples families into it and hes gonna fuckin pay,and then they had to hold Don back. Box office ladies and gentlemen.

Now alot of this fight was fought in the clinch, and maybe people might find it boring for that reason, but it was a super macho war of attrition as both guys slugged each other to the body w everything they had and just kept going. Similar to Frye/Takayama but at a slower pace. At some point Ken gets his trademark heelhook, and Don stonefaces it the whole time, even tho you know he gotta be in agony. He just refuses to tap until the bell and limps back out there for rd 3 like a real man where he managed to drop Ken and win the fight by decision. If you got the DVD of this event, then you can see the backstage footage of Don crying in pain in the back, and its said he got a addiction to painkillers from this whole scenario. The two guys did respect each other after the fight though.

Also Nogueira tapped out Enson while what I assume to be yakuza surrounded the ring, and abused the referee for stopping the fight. Thats the only explanation I got for them to have the confidence to shove referees around with seemingly no resistance.

Wanderlei vs Tamura was surprisingly competitive considering the skill gap and Tamura being a smaller dude, but he eventually falls victim to a big right hand and faceplants

The BEST fight on the card is Pele the Asshole vs Carlos the OG weeaboo Newton, who eats a HARD flush knee to the face and just shakes it off like it wasnt SHIT.

(timestamped)

Carlos wins up subbing Pele the asshole, who was predictably an asshole about losin.

This card also has THE BIG CAT Tom Erickson who was obviously the GOAT if he fought more.

This absolute giga chad of a unit actually has a win via THROAT CRUSH (or rape choke) and they had to make that move illegal after he did it to Matt Skelton

I rate this card 3 out of five Fedors, even though Fedor would not start in Pride until PRIDE 21.

I remember reading interviews about Don that he started adopting the brawling style after this fight to make up for his damaged legs due to the leglock by Ken.
I believe it,but i think that injury was kind of the beggining of the end for Don.

.....

DID YOU FUCKIN SEE THAT!

That was Enson's brother Egan, and he was pissed that the ref didn't stop it sooner...

Pele vs Carlos is one of my all time favorites!!!
Aha! He did the same shit to Frank Shamrock when he knocked Enson out w the knee.

In both cases he jumped in before the ref had a chance to stop it honestly. It got Enson dq'd in the shamrock fight, but he was out anyway.

Also the music after they break up the scuffle is my fuckin jams. Shoulda let that music go a little longer

<Moves>

I met Don Frye once, his hands are huge. If he punched me,I would fly apart like King Arthur in super ghouls n Ghosts. Same w Ray Sefo.

Ken X Frye...is Kens last good fight...

Watching it...then...and now...this feels like a true big time heavyweight fight.

Also...
STEPHEN QUADROS is on his all time best at this time...

"Whoooaaaaaaaaa what huge knee...Carlos must be seeing Stars right now "

Herring X Vovchanchyn ....was also a great HW fight to watch...

PRIDE 19 Was one of Prides strongest Events...

Who still hasnt watchwd it...should do it tonight

Imagine if Ken vs Don was 5 rounds. TO TEH DEATH

Tamura was a game opponent, and took his physical fitness seriously, so much so that he had longevity in comparison to his peers. People might’ve thought I was dissing him in another thread a few months back, a thread about fake records on legitimate MMA sites (Sherdog), but I respect him as a fighter. It was kind of sad that he had a hybrid boxing match a few years ago, only to get KO’d by an unknown.

As someone above me posted, that was Ken’s last good fight, too. He got beaten up for the next 14 years, profiting off of his former glory. Yes, he could still garner interest, but not many of those fights were interesting, nor were they entertaining once the bell rang. The guy couldn’t move or take a punch. No amount of PED’s were helping, either. But that night was Ken and Don’s night to shine. Great buildup, great fight, great ending.
