I'm actually not close to Magdeburg, it is a 3+ hour drive from my home. I also haven't visited a big CHRISTMAS market in years, trying to stay in my village which is mostly still german. No need to go to a high security "winter market" in a city.

Have a look at those videos online of the massive Xmas market in Wroclaw, Poland. Amazing looking. No police. No concrete barriers........I wonder why? Poland is the future of Europe, BTW. Fastest growing economy in Europe apparently and hardline immigration policies.

Having police at a X-Mas market here is almost unheard of. Maybe in the bigger cities they have a couple of rent-a-cops just in case of pickpockets or someone disturbing the peace.

It really bums me out to see what the UK and Germany has become.

And Poland is probably booming because a lot of the industrial workers who used to live here have returned home, lol

I don't think it was an accident. Anyway Christmas markets in the UK have bollards to stop this from happening, and often armed police. I visited Newcastle Christmas Market recently and it had bollards. Maybe small markets in out of the way places don't have them though.

It's not just Christmas markets that have armed police now actually but various large gatherings.
