I am sure some people here have taken a pre-employment polygraph. I am just wondering how it went for you and if you got the job. I took my first one last night and it was the most uncomfortable thing I believe I have ever done. I was stressing out trying to tell myself to be calm and to not move at all because the tester made such a big deal pre test about being still.
He said everything was good for me except the drug past. I told the truth but he was getting readings in his own words of not like "Oh shit, I need to lie" but more of I was thinking it out in my head. Just wondering about others history with that horrible machine. I wont hear about my results until next week most likely so hopefully that little hiccup will not hurt me.

Polygraphs have been proven to be horseshit pseudo science.

Why the fuck are they used in any professional or legal setting?

I fish some big money bass tournaments & the winners always have to pass a polygraph to get their money. I've never had to take one because I suck, but I'd be pissed if I got screwed out of $100,000 for failing a polygraph when I know didn't cheat.

never head of a job giving a polygraph... unless u work for the CIA it isnt necessary

Took it for the corrections dept years ago. Not a big deal.

Tell the truth.

Yep. Part of the reason they catch some people in lies is because people go into the test thinking it's legitimate and become super nervous. It's easy to beat.

There is a reason it's not admissible in court

Just work yourself up for every answer so you just seem anxious as fuck instead of worrying about staying calm for every single answer.

I told the truth and was getting skewed results on one part. This was my first one though so not sure if skewed results is a bad thing or just something that happened.

i took one a long time ago when i applied for a job with a pharm company.

as george costanza would say, "it's not a lie if you believe it to be true".
mine was given by a supposed ex-FBI specialist. all i did was self regulate my breathing/heartbeat, focused on a door knob, and answered questions with a simple yes/no. i certainly lied on a few parts of the test.

i ended up getting the job.

Polys are hit or miss. I know people that have taken several, same answers and they've passed some, gotten inconclusive on others, and failed in other tests.

If you know how to remain calm (see breathing exercises), you'll pass. The test relies on your body reacting differently wen you're lying.

It's pretty universally known that polygraphs are inaccurate. It's basically an avenue for an intense interrogation. Examiners are pushing for a confession - that's why they claim people are lying so strongly.
