Before anything let me state

SMILING JDS WARMS MY HEART

Where is the crisp , sharp, bomb thrower JDS ?

Look

He isn't past-his-prime or suddenly not as good or anything.

Cain just exposed some glaring holes in his game, which he still hasn't fixed looking at the Hunt,Stipe and Cain rematch. He just needs to start evolving and fixing his flaws and I think he'll be as good as new.

Didn't he have an ankle injury in his last fight?

Thats probably why he looked a little sluggish.

Jesus christ with the way Sherdog talks about JDS, you'd think he was KO'd in the 1st in his last fight.

He fought a stiff challenge in Stipe and came out on top. Wasn't his finest performance, but it showed a lot of grit and skill to come out on top in that fight. He's not deteriorated to a can and thankfully his chin is still existent.

Stipe did way better then he should have.

Knee injury.

Oh alright

You see? I wouldn't say he's physically slower now. Just a knee strain + some mental hesitation due to not being 100% confident in his knee.

It happens. No jumping to conclusions.

Not true. He came in with a great gameplan and a good skillset. Big, fast, good hands, durable, and a decent wrestling/clinch game.

I guess I should have rephrased that, he did much better than most expected.

He's taken so much damage in a span of very few fights. I hope he regains his old form, but if he doesn't I don't think he should fight Cain again even if he earns the shot.

After Struve knocked him out in the second round several years ago, everybody expected JDS to demolish Stipe in several minutes.

Instead it turned out Miocic has evolved into a genuine top-5 fighter and JDS had to work hard to beat him. It was a big surprise.

I don't think JDS has actually changed much at all, it's just that Stipe is criminally underrated here.

Just my opinion though, and I could be wrong.

JDS is far from finished, he just needs to regain confidence imo

Miocic is good, but you shouldn't underestimate the effect of momentum and confidence. '10-'12 JDS would most likely have run right through him.

For someone on a tear like that, it takes a Cain or a GSP to stop them. Cain hasn't fought that many guys, but look at how GSP's opponents did before and after they fought him. Fitch had a .50 finish rate in the UFC prior to the GSP fight. Alves could hang with anyone at WW. Shields beat Dan Henderson but got KO'ed right after fighting GSP. Condit was 13-1 in his last 14 coming in to the fight but only has a single win since.

It's not at all far fetched to think that Cain does the same to his opponents. In a sport that depends so much on confidence as MMA does, it must be devastating to find out that someone is so much better than you.

I think it's more mental.

He was on top of the world, then he got completely embarrassed by the champ for 10 rounds. One loss is one thing, then you go back to the drawing board and get your confidence back up, but then to he had it shattered again.

He isn't good enough to beat Cain, I think that fucked with him and it showed in his recent fights.

I think he has been in too many wars (Cain 1-3, Hunt, Stipe)...not saying his career is over. But he has taken some years off his life with those fights.

im not a jds fan and even i can admit hes not the same fighter he was. his feet and hands were noticeably slower in his last fight. who knows maybe reem can light a fire under his ass?

people tend to forget that he was one of the least hittable fighters in the ufc prior to cain ripping his heart out.

You guys might as well write a novel about the change of JDS.....Jesus,this whole "brain damage","zombie" stuff is way too overrated.

People make it seem like after-Cain JDS would even lose to Potts, but in reality he beat a very underrated Miocic.
