Did about 4.25 miles this morning at a pretty aggressive pace for me and when I was done my left eye swelled up (not painful to the touch). This has only happened one other time (first time was just before quarantine) in almost two decades of off again on again running (I’ve been back at it for about 5 months). No one I’ve asked seems to have heard of anything like this before. Any ideas?

Cut it open a little to reduce swelling.

Getting dark around the eyes from dehydration I think, but I've never had swelling like that. Maybe some grit got in there or something, no idea.

Stay hydrated and be careful. Edema can sometimes be a result of more serious problems, but that's not necessarily the case. Maybe buy a bike or just run 2 miles fast. 4.25 is an odd distance to have negative effects from, tbh.

Last time it happened I did 9 on the treadmill.

hope the other guy looks worse.

one time i went jogging and a bee stung my face that's why i don't go outside anymore

do you have any known allergies?

the last time this happened, was it around the same time of year?

Yep. Just the left one.
Well of course there are heart issues that cause edema so be careful. Probably not that, but probably worth getting checked by a DR if keeps happening. If it goes down fairly quick then it's probably just a quirk of that eye.

Allergies are of course possible, but that would (I think) more often affect both eyes. Could easily be that too, however.

The only good thing about consulting sherdog members for medical advice is that there's no deductible.
