The post about people that do jiu jitsu to impress UFC loving friends reminded me of a humorous bjj related story. Im a sophmore in highschool and Ive been bjj for almost a year. There are 4 kids total that I know of that train in any bjj at our highschool and we are all good friends now. So I run into this guy in the halls and hes wearing a tapout shirt so I strike up a conversation with him and he tells me hes been training for close to 3 years. Then I ask him where he trains he responded "Oh its this brand new place u prlly havent heard of it". At this point im very suspecious because he just told me he was training for 3 years. I kept questioning him and he feeds me line after line of bullshit. So I decided to test him I asked him a trick question "Does your lapel ever dig into ur ankle when ur rolling in Gi". He responds with Yea it did for a while but after the first year I stopped noticing. Now when he walks down the hall and sees either me or my 3 friends that train he looks away ashamed. He still does tell kids he could kick their ass and that he won a gold medal in the junior olympics for jiu jitsu (which is funny cuz there isnt one to my knowledge I also belive there isnt a lapel that could dig into ur ankle). I thought Id share that humourous story has anyone else have a story like that.

lol @ junior olympics for jiu jitsu, that doesn't even exist.

You should ask him to roll one day and see what he says

ask him to roll! if he doesn't want to, wait for him by his locker after 5th period and slap on a rnc!

i won the silver to your friend, and i showed him how to wear his gi jacket properly so it stops rubbing on his ankle, the joker was wearing them like pants.
i also go to the same dojo and it used to be a ninja school, so i hope you can understand about our sworn secret school you probaly never heard of...

Invite him to train where you do. People grow up and learn lessons at different rates. Maybe he'll end up being geniuinely decent and a good sparing partner.

Ive been considering inviting him but i dunno ill wait till we start talking more often so I can get to know him better before I decide to invite him to bjj. Im not mean to him or anything I just caught him in a lie and I thought it was funny so I shared

That is hilarious. Haven't really encountered any Poser BJJ guys....Can't wait till I do though :D

Fuck that shit. Slam him against the lockers and challenge him right on the spot. AC Slater style.

few years back before i had gotten into bjj this bouncer guy i knew told me he was an 'orange belt' in brazilian jiu jitsu.

at the time i had no idea what that was so i was like heyy thats cool.. then i started training it, found out there was no orange belt and to make matters worse for him.. once i had already been at it for about 7 months he shows up at the club i train at looking to start bjj ;)

its always fun to tap a liar.

There was a guy last year that went out for the wrestling team that claimed to train in BJJ and MMA. He was a transfer stutdent from Arizona and said he was succsesful in both gi and no gi competition. At a glance he seemed to be in fairly good shape and talking to him he appeared to be somewhat (keyword) knowledgeable so I didn't really have any reason to doubt him.

After a couple of minutes of talking he asked me if I wanted to roll with him. Granted I don't claim to be a BJJ wiz, just a wrestler who cross-trains on the side, but I felt up for the "challenge". After a minute or two it was apparent the guy was a total joke. He had absolutely no takedown defense, a sorry excuse for a "guard", and kept attempting sloppy submissions (the type one can only learn from watching TUF and surfing youtube) that ended with me in side mount and submitting him. Let's just say he never came back.

*sigh* There were tons of guys like that in HS where I went except it was boxing for them. Damn people are pathetic.

Moral of the story is, don't lie just so you can impress people.

LOL. I say lie. Or at least overdramatize it with chicks. I do it all the time.:D

Has no effect vs real grappling imo. People are too smart.

Lieing to chicks who you'll never see again is one thing. But spreading around a reputation as a badass grappler, when in reality your a fish out of water on the ground, will definitely backfire on you eventually lol.

Theres this guy that I went to school with who is a compulsive liar, and recently he jumped on the mma band wagon. He claims to be a bad ass fighter and says he will fight anyone. So he started calling me out around his friends, saying he was gonna kick my ass cause he heard I was at a party with his ex or some bullshit like that. Thing is he will never call me out to my face or even admit that he talks shit about me, which is funny because I am 5'4" and 145 and he is well... huge. But more like a huge bitch, because one night when he showed up at the gym to challenge me (and he had to bring some muscle bound assholes as backup) he saw that I was serious about my training, and all of the bullshit ceased. He never even said a word to me in my territory. Since then he started picking on someone else.

Lol you won without fighting.

Since he's scared of you, you should use it to your advantage. Maybe make him stop being such a dick.

Yea, you shoudl def. roll with him one day. You should really confuse hime by putting him into a n omnoplata or something.

Orange is a kid's belt. He may have gotten it before he was 16. Some places also give out kids belts instead of stripes on the white belt. Not saying he was a liar, but just saying there is an orange belt in BJJ. The belt system goes:

I . WHITE

Seeing a a huge meathead get tapped out by a tiny Japanese girl by omoplata was hilarious. I quote "She'd never tap me, I'm too strong."

He never came back.

Are these poser bjj guys?
