I don't have an addictive personality. Maybe that's part of why I tend to have a libertarian attitude in general. It seems like a lot of authoritarians are overcompensating for their own shortcomings. I don't feel like society should be catered to losers who can't handle freedom and free choice. I'd rather have access to something and not need it, then need something and not have it. It's possible I may never need a gun to protect myself, but you bet your ass I'd want to have one when someone breaks into my home. I resent left wing authoritarians for trying to take that choice away from me. Similarly, I resent right wing authoritarians who want to control what content I as an adult can consume. If you want to control what content your kid watches in your home, by all means, your house, your rules, but fuck off with trying to tell the rest of us how to live.

Watching porn hasn't made me any less attracted to physical women or altered my standards / sexual excursions. Maybe some younger guys who grew up just watching hardcore shit think that they should be spitting everywhere or something to that capacity - that's definitely an issue.

If you find yourself watching it out in public, at work, etc. on your phone, yes, you probably have an issue. If you develop some weird dick envy, yeah, that's an issue as well. If you don't understand how sex with a girl you meet should differ from a porn set, you're probably an autist.

Definitely, and it had a marked effect on my life.

I remember my sex life being an absolute disaster with my first girlfriend because of it, leading to that break up. I also remember recognising it about ten years in, soon after, when I noticed that my colleagues were talking about getting aroused by passers by, but I was not.

I'd try to stop but the itch would always be there and though the first few days would be fairly easy, I would obsess at some point and wouldn't stop thinking about porn until I'd do the deed. Before my first real relationship, my abstaining record was 21 days.

I can link it to my past mental health issues and my failures in life, to be honest. Honestly, for much of my adult life, I've felt like I've been missing a gear, had no passion, no motivation and thought about suicide a lot.

Been in a relationship for three years and I've been able to cut right down. I feel a lot better, am better down there and can perform in bed, but not perfect.

Looking at porn as a 14 year old is one of my greatest regrets, along with not applying myself at school.

IMO It doesn't make any sense to call something an addiction, unless it has more negative consequence than positive.

While there's no doubt that there exist people for whom their porn habits have had seriously negative consequence, I'm highly skeptical that that's true of the majority.

(You could go the opposite route and call everything people can't/won't quit an addiction, then classify them as helpful, harmless, or harmful addictions, but that's not my preference. Referring to 'talking' or 'using a toilet' as "helpful addicitions" seems silly and cumbersome.)

Goes hand in hand, but physical pornography is a lot more powerful, so I would think about it constantly, then whip my phone out or turn my PC on. Even if I had the goal of no porn and wanking, my fantasies would turn me to finding something real.

I'd put it in a similar class as alcoholism, as it is fine in moderation. Unfortunately, some people hold off ejaculation for hours for a long spike of arousal and/or looking for something better, and that can really fuck up your head and sex/social life.

Haha well when we were doing that I was teaching for only 2 hours a day, with us doing it 5-10 times a day, pretty much never missed a single day of that. I miss that. With life so busy back in Canada it's only 1-3 times a day now. It sucks.
