“Crises provoke fear, alarm. In my opinion, the most common example of European populism is Germany in 1933... A people that was immersed in a crisis, that looked for its identity until this charismatic leader came and promised to give their identity back, and he gave them a distorted identity, and we all know what happened,”
he said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Pais.

“Hitler did not steal power,” the Pope said. “He was elected by his people and then he destroyed his people.”

It's a good warning. Trump isn't the problem, his blind supporters that make excuses for him are. We gotta help them see through the con.

The vatican was pretty neutral during WW2 -- apparently too timid to speak out then. Funny how they find their courage now.

The pope huh, here is a classic song

Oh we saw through the lies, that's how he got elected.
I'm afraid you didn't. He came on stage, promised you your wildest dreams and you guys gave up your allegiance and votes faster than a drunk prom date spreads her legs. And you'll be fucked just the same.

The Pope is right. We should continue to let our countries be ruined. We should not stand up for our freedom.

The most Jesus esque pope coincidentally is the most disliked by the American religious right.

Gold

From the Pope, huh?

They even helped some SS guys to escape to South America lol

Ive read various insights on Pius during world war 2: John Cornwell ripped him apart in his book, but his claims have been challenged. Others claimed that he was an aide to the allies and that Jews respected him for opening some safe sanctuary to those at risk.

Im pretty confident that he played both sides as best as he could -- he may had secretly sided with the allied, and help some jews -- but, he exemplified the autocratic nature of the axis AND he never publicly denounced the Hitler or Mussolini.

Just find it odd that a leader of an institution that promotes segregated rights of women, autocratic leadership, anti pro choice and hypocritical structure of wealth inequality would ever speak out against the perils of absolutism

The vatican is built on the ideals of fascism

Interesting to note that the catholic demographic has backed each winner of the popular vote in US elections except for this year.

Yeah it is very likely that they played both sides at the time because it was "best for business". Similar to how they celebrate themselves for helping muslim refugees, when in fact it is all about the money. The catholic church has many institutions and buildings in Germany and they get a big amount of money a month for every refugee that is housed there.

That is true.

Plus - like so often - the actual circumstances that led to Hitler winning are completely ignored and that time is nowhere near to even being comparable to 2017.

Hitler was never excommunicated from the catholic church, but Dr. Goebbels surely was...

for marrying a protestant. o_O

The pope should take a bunch of 3rd world Muslim immigrants into the Vatican City.

Until when he should shit the fuck up.

Why is it that only right wing populism gets pointed out as populism?

So world leaders who wish to break up the powers of large centralized governments entities and return sovereignty back to the people are nazis?

Do these idiots know anything about Hitler outside the fact he killed a bunch of jews?
