This Pope was one of the biggest intellectual powerhouse of the Catholic Church, and many said the great pronouncements and doctrine debates on faith were still led by him, even if he was no longer Pope. An impressive figure for sure. The child abuse scandal marred his mandate, and it's most likely the reason he quit.

Former Pope Benedict XVI has died, aged 95, almost a decade after he stood down because of ailing health.

He led the Catholic Church for fewer than eight years until, in 2013, he became the first Pope to resign since Gregory XII in 1415.

Benedict spent his final years at the Mater Ecclesiae monastery within the walls of the Vatican where he passed away at 09:34 (08:34 GMT) on Saturday.

His successor Pope Francis will lead the funeral on 5 January.

Already a Thread on this, bro,

Technically, he accused the Vatican, rather than Catholicism itself.

Still not a risk I'd take

True I suppose, but that won't be any consolation to an entire religion that's offended by that assertion.

Nuts that people think they can just type whatever bigotry exists in their head, and that it should be protected somehow.

How about no?

Blanket statements about large groups of people are, by definition, inherently inaccurate. Add to that the Mods have made it perfectly clear what will happen to any member who accuses someone of sex offences against children, and he'll be lucky to just get Dubs.

I wish they would Make Trump the new Pope. Then I would build a raft like Noah and swim in liberal tears.
Rest in peace
Bitch
