Part of me just refuses to believe that he is intentionally running his campaign this way. Partially because just on his resume, I thought he'd be a decent candidate since I prefer candidates with real world accomplishments. Now, I'm trying to find some reason why my previous assumption seems so incredibly wrong.
I think your mistake springs from the fact that most of Trump’s real world accomplishments are actually nothing of the sort. All his greatest successes were either handed to him by his father or kept by virtue of his father’s influence. There was an article posted in the WR room not that long ago that explored the fact that Trump would’ve been finished a long time ago if his father hadn’t bailed him out again and again, with money or called favors.
On his own, Donald’s biggest talent besides self-promotion seems to be the ability to make sure other people are left holding the bag for his failures.
Fred Trump may have been racist slumlord piece of shit, but he was a very intelligent, scrupulously hardworking and modest racist slumlord piece of shit. His son inherited all his flaws but none of his virtues it would seem.
Another possibility is that accomplishment and experience in one walk of life doesn’t necessarily translate well into other walks of live. Trump for instance has spent his entire life in autocratic institutions, were the boss’s word (his father’s or his own) was law. He has never had to be accountable to a board of directors or stockholders. He has never had to engage in negotiation where the objective was compromise and a mutually beneficial deal, as opposed to zero-sum games where the objective is to screw the other guy over as much as possible.
