"Prime" is one of our favorite catch terms. We generally use it when the guy we like just lost because he is suddenly "past his prime."

So name a fighter past his prime or retired and say which fight represented the start of their prime and which fight was just after their prime ended.

Ken Shamrock: I think his first fight in his prime was Ryushi Yanagisawa. I think he needed his first couple losses to learn the weaknesses he needed to improve to hit his prime. I think by the Kazayuki Fujita fight, his prime had ended.

Wand - You could say his prime began when he beat Henderson. Somewhat ironically, his second fight with Hendo probably marks the beginning of his decline, although it may have been a bit sooner. Could be the second Crocop fight, but it's hard to tell since Crocop was in beast mode that night.

Cm punk prime wwe

Past his prime wwe

Cain - not many will agree on this but I think he is not at his best since, maybe, JDS 2. Still there is no proof in his fights that he is not the same since in his lost to the Werdum you can say that he had ring rust and others things.

Hendricks - Condit and GSP fight. Looked ok against Lawler in the first fight, but after not so much.

I've always thought Wanderlei's prime ended the night he fought Hunt (he was still in his prime that night, but that was the end). I'm honestly not basing this on his loss(es); I'm also basing it on his staredowns and tentativity, post-Hunt. Always felt his chin started to Crack open during '05 in training. I guess he entered his prime the night he fought Mezger (or maybe Hendo).

A prime is when mental, physical and skill capabilities all reach as high as they're going to go, if you're missing one of these you're either before or passed your prime.

2010 was prime Chris Leben, he never looked as good as his back-to-back wins over Aaron Simpson and Yoshihiro Akiyama.

I consider all athletes physical prime age 20-30.

I remember thinking Wand won that fight. Even Hunt seemed somewhat surprised when they read the decision. Silva took some massive shots in that fight. I would say he was at the height of his prime during that fight, but that fight definitely shortened his 'viable' career by a couple of years.

I thought Anderson started to decline in the first Sonnen fight.

Fedor`s prime began when he beat Schildt and ended with his win over Arlovski. His last fight in his prime was against Sylvia

conor mcgregor - 2011-2015

Chuck prime started when he beat Kevin Randleman and ended when he got knocked out by rampage the second time
