Phil Davis vs. Linton Vassell booked for Bellator 200 in May

Bellator announced today that former light heavyweight champion Phil Davis and recent title challenger Linton Vassell will face each other in a critical matchup at Bellator 200.

A win would keep Davis (18-4-1 MMA, 5-1 BMMA) or Vassell (18-6-1 MMA, 7-3 BMMA) squarely in the running for a 205-pound title shot after recent failures in title fights, with both men falling to current champ Ryan Bader.

Davis defended his belt twice in 2016 before dropping a split decision to Bader last June at Bellator 180. “Mr. Wonderful” has since rebounded with a unanimous-decision win over Leonardo Leite at Bellator 186 and hopes a win will earn him a rematch with Bader, who is currently preparing for a Bellator heavyweight grand prix opening-round fight vs. Muhammed Lawal in May.

Vassell, meanwhile, had won three in a row to earn his second title shot. But like his first attempt, Vassell fell short at Bellator 186, losing by TKO to Bader.

Bellator 200 will take place May 25 at The SSE Arena, Wembley in London. The main card will air on Paramount following prelims on MMAjunkie.

With the addition, the lineup now includes:

• Rafael Carvalho vs. Gegard Mousasi – for middleweight title
• Michael Page vs. David Rickels
• Phil Davis vs. Linton Vassell

Boy is LHW a rough bit of match making regardless. Not many combos of Davis, Vassell, Bader and Mo are going to create barn burners.

Hopefully they sign more guys, pretty soon everyone will have already fought each other. Nemkov is exciting because he's new blood and he's looked good, they need more guys like him.

You can throw Jordan young into the mix as well. Dude is talented for sure. He’s been trying to make 185 but failed on multiple occasions. Last I heard he was moving up to lhw. Bellator needs to start throwing their young talent on the main cards.

Luckily, They’ve been doing a lot more of this with recent cards.

I would like him to face Feijao, who won a contract to fight in Bellator fighting in Brasil. I don’t want nemkov to be inactive for 2 long.

Scope - Girtz and Crawford - Corrales would be nice additions to the cards. I think both those fights would be fireworks as for McGeary I say have him fight Feijao next. He can win that fight and it's a name.

Solid fight for that card, Davis should win that. If Bader goes all the way in this GP then rest of LHW div is have to tread water until next year.

Guess you do Nemkov vs winner of this and then winner of that sits out and waits for a title shot if Bader is in GP for the entire year? If Bader happens to lose to Mo then it will be interesting to see who they go with.

honestly forgot that Feijao was signed to bellator. Bellator needs to get its shit together. that fight makes sense though. Mcgeary needs to reinvent himself for sure.
