This is a review of the Phantom Athletics "Riot"-Gloves.
These gloves are classic 7oz-sparring gloves, made of really nice leather with a textile lining. The padding on the gloves is nice and thick, but it's not pillow-y at all. It's slightly curved which makes forming a fist a little easier and protects your fingers from being bent in the wrong direction and your partner from being eye-jabbed...
The wrist support in these gloves is great. The "cuff" is slightly stiffened and the velcro is pretty large, with the loop-part being larger than the hook-part, so you don't scratch yourself or your partner of you close the gloves a little imperfectly.
While the padding is pretty thick, the gloves are not as bulky as one might think. Pummeling is not a problem and they didn't hinder me from holding a wrist or a foot at all, even holding training weapons, if that's your thing, is no problem. But don't try fishing your trainer-folder out of your pocket, that doesn't really work...
Sparring with intensities up to 70% was no problem and I felt pretty secure in the gloves, while my partners didn't complain either. The gloves are built perfectly and I think I will use them for many years...
As Phantom Athletics are a European company, getting them in the US might be a little tricky, but if you're looking for new MMA-gloves to sparr in, these are definitely worth it!
I wear medium in most gloves, and S/M fits me like a glove...
