Pets and fireworks

My dog gets very anxious during the 4th of July firework time. Panting and pacing.
I tried a new type of calming treat today and it had no effect.
The dog was trembling and pacing like always.

A lot of California they are banned with the wildfire risk. I don't find them boring though, I had a roof terrace in Amsterdam and one of my favourite NYE was stood up there with visiting family with a glass of bubbly.
judging from the videos out of LA every year it looks like they send you to jail if you don’t light off fireworks.

Vet prescribed my dog something, forgot the name but I tried like a quarter of the pill once and I was OUT.

Not going to bed was out of the question. I’m honestly impressed he can actually function and seem normal on it.

The girl who runs away when the garbage truck's not lost the plot. The confident one's under the bed and has been for hours :(

My dog hides in the bathroom. We put a blanket and water in there for her. I heard you're just supposed to leave them be and not try to comfort them.

I've put food in, neither of them drink much water so I'll leave the fountain in the kitchen. But at nearly midnight still massive fireworks going on.

Jackson used to get in a state, panting and nervous.
Fletch used to sit at the window watching them.
Foley doesn't seem too bad, just a little aggressive

My dogs bark like hell for about 30 minutes until they get used to it.

I once went out to a New Years party with one of my exes and sadly when we came home in the middle of the night we found her golden retriever outside in the bushes by the pool, stiff as a rock. Haunting pain and regret leaving him outside that night.

So the dog died.. or was just ridiculously scared..?

My Roxie Sox wasnt bothered by them at all last night, she just laid on the couch not even paying attention, there was a couple times that the neighbors let off something with a huge boom and she looked over at me for reassurance but when she saw I wasnt worried then neither was she

died, hence the haunting pain and regret

That’s wild. Did the dog freak out during thunderstorms too? We get some gnarly thunderstorms where I’m at that will shake the ground and can last for hours.

not 100% on thunderstorms, but her family knew he hated July 4th and NYE

Yeah that sucks. I feel like if you know someone or a pet family member that really struggles with that stuff it’s the families duty to make sure someone stays with that person/animal to help comfort them.

At the same time sounds like it wasn’t your dog? So kinda hard to blame yourself there imo

Fireworks should be banned. They petrify animals, fly in the face of all the environmental crap, are a hazard, and let's be honest - pretty boring.

Not all animals get petrified by fireworks. My brother had a couple of retired racing Greyhounds that had no problems hearing fireworks.

In fact, most of the time they would just lay down and go to sleep.

You just have to condition them the same way you would to acclimate hunting dogs to gunfire.

Dreading tonight. I know because our City fireworks ended up in a wildfire everyone will be out in force. I ended up in a FB ban last night haha.

One runs and hides; one doesn't care at all; one looks alert and ready to retrieve a dead animal.

Train your pet not be afraid to be of fireworks.

People are lazy about their pets.
