Petr Yan poses problems for anybody at BW.
- He hits hard, really hard for a 135er.
- Great chin, and he doesn't wear his damage much at all
- Good defense, although he makes mistakes in the pocket, he's generally good at not getting hit clean with heat with his high guard and impressive boxing acumen
- Fast left body/head kick, and can fight well from either stance

Now that we brushed up on some basic , general strengths of Petr, I wanna talk a little about some of the sneaky, clever traps he sets.

1. He will throw a 1-2 repeatedly throughout the course of a fight, sometimes while slowing the 2 down on purpose to lull you into what happens next -> He out of nowhere will throw a 1,2 and switch stances as he throws the 2 to throw a monsterous left hook that'll knock your head off.
Now, shifting is not new and we've seen a handful of guys do it (izzy, max, volk, rose, etc) but to purposefully take something off that cross to make you think it ain't shit as a set up for the 1,2,3 later is some sneaky shit.

2. When he fights southpaw, he will throw his left hand half ass as well, as a fake to throw the left high kick a split second after it. He's very tricky, calculated.

I just was thinking about this and wanted to share.
Yan is an intriguing fighter to watch/study, he looks very basic at first glance.. High guard, minimal head movement, minimal lateral movement unless in immediate danger, very planted , no bouncing around, straight line steps toward opponent..... But he sets some interesting traps that'll sneak up on you. Everything is hidden behind a veil with Yan, there is no flashy shit, no showboating. He spends sometimes more than half of the round fighting purposely in a way to make you think you've figured him out.

Not gonna lie, he's one of my favorite fighters to watch and learn from ("the man's a fan boy, he bought t-shirts!") because of how straight forward everything is with him, he makes it look easy. His approach to fighting is pragmatic.

Can't wait for this fight.
War Aldo but Yan is an awesome fighter, my hands will be sweaty.

Some aspects of Machida's lulling into false sense of security. High level deception is a wonder to see.

Probably the fight I’m looking forward to most...

What I personally love about Yan is that he knows exactly what strike to throw and exactly what time to throw it as well as when to be defensive and when to turn It on.

In Boxing there is a guy I’m very high on named Sergey Lipinets who has a very similar approach to fighting. Very economical with his punch output and punch selection but, when the opportunity is there, he knows to let go.

Aldo will be an interesting matchup for sure though. Aldo is still very good defensively, and, aside from his fights with Holloway, his fights always seem to be fought at the pace he wants it to be fought.

I’m honestly expecting more of a chess match than an action fight. Which is a good thing for me.

This is pretty much what Dan Hardy said in his breakdown of the fight ... is that you Kenny Florian?

Yan may beat Aldo but i dont think he has a chance against Sterling

He will, he is asking for Chito, even if Chito is below him in rankings (which does not mean anything these days).
If Sean beats Vera he should fight against John Dodson or Cody Stamann or Rob font

Go F yourself boss, casual jaja jesus, I hope schools starts again soon in you are kid
They deleted my post M8!!!!
This is bloody casual favoritism it is!

Maybe, but I would not be surprised if he gets Rivera or Assuncao. Let's be honest, UFC would like Sugar as a champ in lets say year or so. He is going to be the most popular guy in Bantam in like 6 months or so. With one more KO, he will skyrocket 100%

Hes really good at throwing elbows at the break of the clinch too

I admit I know less about this guy than I probably should Was never really a fan of these guys (bw) but he's intriguing

it sounds like he's vulnerable to a good counter striker but you're saying his ability to lull outweighs his need for head movement?
his defense is offense is that what I'm hearing ?

weirdly this is the fight I'm most looking forward to on the card

TS either you’re Dan Hardy, or you watched his breakdown and listed his talking points. If so thanks for the cliffs!
