You agree or disagree?

Here would be my personal rules in regards to guys and gals missing weight:

1. You miss weight once, you lose 80% of your purse and keep only 20%, as the thread title says.

2. You miss weight twice, you still lose 80% but you're also required to move up to the next weight class starting with your next fight.

3. Miss weight three times, you're out. Fired. Done. Three strike rule.

So basically you're saying every time a fighter misses weight we cancel the fight....

Not very forward thinking there....

Idk whats got to be done... But coming over weight to a fight to gain an advantage is a loophole that needs to be patched

Naw TS, we need to get serious here and just shoot them. Zero tolerance.

So bye Johny Hendricks?

Anybody who misses weight should be given a bonus. This way everybody would actually be fighting in their natural weight classes.

Not 80% but higher than 20.

Maybe 30-45% depending on how much they miss by.

I like a system similar to driver's license/demerit points that keeps track of a fighter's history, and takes punitive actions accordingly. The more times you have missed weight, and the more weight you've missed in total, the greater % is subtracted from your purse.

-If a fighter hasn't missed weight in the last 5 fights, and only missed 1lbs for the first time, you take 10% off the purse.
-If a fighter has missed weight twice in the last 5 fights by 1lbs and 2lbs respectively, and just missed weight a third time by 1lbs, you add the total lbs of weight missed (1+2+1 = 4lbs) and take 40% off the purse, etc.

Well, if they were only getting 20% of their purse, they'd just cancel the fight before the weigh ins.

So that they'd get NONE of their purse then?

Ideally, the idea is to encourage people to actually make weight like a pro. It's part of their job, after all.

These guys make like 10k to show. If they are only gonna get 2k of that, and risk a loss after missing weight, it's better for their careers to just say they got injured, and not miss weight.

What you need to do is give more money to the people that will fight when their opponent misses weight, so that fights don't get canceled. The weight thing might be unfair, but at least we still get to see 2 people fight.

Fighters who missed weight are 10-0 in the ufc this year. Statistically it’s a bigger advantage than testing positive for PEDs. Keeping it solely a low monetary penalty is what’s not forward thinking. It’s totally unfair to fighters who make weight.

If they agree to a fight, then why would they pretend to be injured instead of just, you know, making weight like they're supposed to? The point is to make the penalties harsher so that folks take making weight more seriously.

Also claims of injuries can be investigated. Maybe they can make it mandatory as well that if a fighter claims they are injured, they get checked out by a UFC regulated doctor just to ensure they aren't lying.

15% fine for every lb over, boxing type contracts.

Not all missed weight is created equal. 20% is already a blanket but to give up 80% for a 2 pound miss - including the 1 pound tolerance on non-title fights - is a bit much.

Whilst I get your point NO fighter is going to fight for 20% so would just lead to far more "injuries" and fights being cancelled.

I'd rather see
-25% of purse to opponent
-Can't qualify for win or fight bonuses
-Start of the fight have a point taken off
-2nd time fighter has to go up a weightclass.

Still don't get why cutting is a thing. Two fighters kill themselves to make weight, then put it all back on and generally end up fighting a guy who is the same size as them. WTF?

Everyone should fight at their natural weight, regular USDA style random testing to check weight with a specified %.
