The guy always getting fucked with these matchups.

12 fights undefeated. Became interim champ after beating Kevin Lee who was one of the top contenders at the time.

Guy had to fight for an interim belt twice after getting stripped for an injury.

Few weeks after getting stripped and having that surgery he put a beating on Pettis, then went on to beating the shit out of Cerrone.

And just when we thought that championship fight is finally going to happen Khabib flew back to Russia because of Corona and the Gaethje fight happened.

Now dude is stuck fighting Chandler because Poirier didn't want any and is fighting McGregor.

It's going to be an intriguing Tony this time around, with how he lost his last fight and Khabib being out the game, seemingly having a pretty fresh new outlook on his career.. If anyone deserves a nonsense 2.0 claim it's this guy right now..

Very curious to see whether he opts for a smarter more defensive game plan, or whether he'll play his usual cardio pressure game..
Also wonder if he has the right mind set in regards to caring about winning or not now, the Khabib fight judging by what we've heard from Eddie Bravo was The Fight, Tony not only anticipating that fight for the glory of the title and beating his year after year weigh in rival, but also to test himself against the guy he and all his camp knew was the absolute No.1 guy, with that potential opportunity taken away, I wonder whether his drive will have diminished at all..
I really hope not, and although it will never happen, I'd love for him to get the belt and for Khabib to come out of retirement for one last attempt at this fuckery of a matchup.

The dude has had some rough turns in his career and some missed opportunities as well. Absolutely still an all time great LW in my book. That being said, even though Chandler isn’t ranked, it’s about the next best option for him at the moment with Conor and Poirier tied up. Chandler is a high profile name (amongst MMA fans) and probably the UFC’s biggest free agent signing since Eddie Alvarez. I also think he is an easier matchup for Tony than Conor, Poirier, Gaethje or even Hooker. Maybe I’m wrong but it’s a good opportunity for Tony to get back on track over a household name after that bad loss to Gaethje. It’s the perfect measuring stick to see where Tony is at right now.

Not to mention, Tony welcoming Chandler to the UFC with a vintage El Cucuy performance by slicing and choking him out would be pure JBG porn.

I genuinely hope Tony Ferguson goes full El Cucuy all over Michael Chandler, and Khabib comes back to try to make it 30-0 over Ferguson. I don’t care about a Khabib/GSP fight. Something in me will die if Khabib and Tony don’t fight. Even if Khabib smashes him, that’s the fight.

Let's ackowledge the fact that Ferguson beat Cowboy while he was on a winning winning streak. Gaethje and especially Conor took the bread crumbs.

I'd argue that Ferguson gets too much respect/attention unlike Poirier, Whittaker or Holloway...fuck, more than even Aldo.

I've never been a fan of Tony after he was a scumbag on tuf. That being said I respect his body of work and the savagery he has brought to the cage countless times. He is far from textbook, exciting as shit, and brings it every time.

There have been countless odd events and circumstances in his career that have definitely changed his trajectory in the ufc, but Tony definitely deserves respect, and any real mma fan should have no problem giving it.

I wouldn't mind tony vs hooker, gaethje vs oliviera, and chandler vs winner of felder vs rda. I know it won't go like that but its fresh matchups.

Tony's win streak is a little exaggerated. That split decision win over Danny Castillo was an absolute gift. He lost that fight convincingly.

Castillo controlled him for 9 minutes and 29 seconds of a 15-minute fight. He controlled him for more than half of each round (2:31 in Rd 1, 2:31 in Rd 2, 4:27 in Rd 3) and finished every round on top of him. Meanwhile, Tony only managed to control Castillo for 7 seconds during the entire fight. Castillo scored 2 takedowns, Tony had 0. Everything else was literally even: each fighter landed 23 significant strikes, 1 reversal, and 1 submission attempt.

Yup. They even gave him the nickname “Dad Cowboy” because of how well he was fighting at the time. He had just kicked Laquinta’s ass and I remember many picking Cowboy on this forum going into the fight.

People also act like Tony beat a washed Pettis, but Pettis was only 30 and was just coming of finishes of Oliviera and Chiesa and a good scrap with Poirier. He also went on to KO Wonderboy in his next fight after Tony put him through the wood chipper.

Twas close, but not the majority opinion .. Castillo was a pretty underrated fighter he beat Dustin Poirier, Lamas, and a few other okay fighters... Underrated really, though a whole heap of losses too, Danny's resume is stacked with tough fights.

good guy to watch fight but pretty much a dirtbag human. i thoroughly enjoyed gaethje beating him into a fine paste.

if chandler is still semi-juicy it should be a good scrap

How is Tony a dirt bag human lol? Because he said some stupid shit while he was drunk on a reality show a decade ago? He’s certainly an odd ball and has struggled with a his fair share of mental health issues but overall he seems like a pretty decent dude. To his family, the fans, etc. But to each their own I guess.

Good match up for Tony, he is the favorite here. His chin should be able to handle Chandler's strikes, he has his BJJ to fall back on if he gets taken down, and submissions he can do while defending takedowns. He should have cardio and pressure advantage. Good bounce back fight for Ferg.

He's also not given enough credit for his coaching as well, he comes across very differently when he's teaching imo, he's clearly very talented at it.

EDIT: Just listening to Luke Thomas's Live Chat, and he says Tony is maybe the nicest fighter he's ever met.

that, his weird twitter posts Where He Capitalizes Every Word. the weird threatening behaviour towards his family to the point they had to get a restraining order. acting like some badass 13 year old despite the fact he's pushing 40. trying to act the badass with guys like werdum who would turn him into a pretzel with ease. refusal to be respectful to khabib when he retired, despite the fact that half the time when their fights were called off it was his fault.
