Erick Silva does not have bad cardio. If Nick Diaz, Cain Velasquez, and other fighters known for their "cardio" threw as much punches and kicks with as vicious intentions he did, or tried to force submissions for the finish as much as he did, they would gas out by the first round.

Erick Silva does not play it safe. He's not making it a point fight or trying to win decision or trying to not lose. He comes in to win and he does it from the beginning until his opponent cover up the whole time not even trying to fight.

Then when he gases, you know that he put everything he had to finish the fight and he has nothing left. That is not bad cardio, that is just not trying to play it safe.

All his wins are by finish. All his losses are after he went full speed ahead until he had nothing left. Not even the biggest gas take could sustain the pace that he brings. He could easily play it safe and win fights via boring decisions everytime. The guy has the skill to do it.

Stop with this Erick Silva bad cardio nonsense. Thank the lord he's not a GSP.

He can't be a GSP, he lacks both the skill and the athleticism.

Diego Sanchez/Clay Guida can sustain that pace easily

Nick Diaz would not gas out if he threw power shots for a whole round, Silva's cardio is not in same universe as some of the best conditioned fighters in MMA.

Cain or Nick Diaz could sustain that pace with ease. The diaz brothers do triatholons. I'm not saying Silva's got poor cardio, he showed against Fitch that he didn't, if he was drained he would have been finished... his cardio was killed not by giving punches but by taking them, that kills energy.

Silva would have had a better fight if Brown hadn't beaten on him with no letup for 2 full rounds, but he was tired as soon as Brown got up, before the beating started. None of the top 10 WWs would gas in 1/2 a round without taking a huge beating to the body, regardless of what they threw.

    Amen.

We need guys like this in the sport just like we need every type of fighter. Fair weather fans are toxic to this sport. You should support your favorites through wins and losses, not everyone needs to be champ. i'll always cheer for a guy that throws down with all he has for the win or goes out on his shield. UFC should welcome the E. Silvas and Melvin Manhoefs of the world.

    when you go beast mode...

Please continue with what his optimal strategy is...

I think you mean that his best bet is to win by blitzing his opponent early.
If that leads to better success than pacing himself, he should train for the 400 m instead of the marathon.

There is nothing wrong with winning this way. Travis Browne looks like a lumbering old man by R3, but he is extremely dangerous in the first two minutes and he should stick to optimizing that.
    Wondering about Reem...
It's totally legit to win by blitz early; I know a lot of elite posters here like to show their sophistication by saying that winning an endless stream of 10-9 rounds is more impressive.
But the bottom line is, winning the fight is impressive and some guys have a different route than others.

I don't think it was a cardio issue. He got beat the fuck up. That takes it out of you.

That's NO excuse for him NOT to get past the first round without being gassed. He may not even have been gassed, possibly just an adrenaline dump. But if he wants to get up in the ranks, he's gonna have to play the game and conserve energy and wait for the right time to go for the kill against some higher ranked/experienced opponents.

Also, strategy plays a big factor when going up against a highly durable fighter in Matt Brown. He should have figured out a way to break down/frustrate Brown as oppose to thinking he was just going to take him out just like that.

he has average at best cardio...if he honed it a bit more maybe he wouldn;t have been the first to experience the Dong's pigeon wing or get pounded by Matt Brown even though he hurt him almost every big body shot he threw.

I somewhat agree, he seems to be in good shape. (I only read the thrad title)

We should dog him for his poor fight IQ and defense.
