They are forgetting, lost in the middle of this massive hype, that Lobov, is NOT a good striker, even in MMA standards. He's tough, he's funny, but that's all.
On the other hand, Paulie IS a good boxer, a very good one at that. If you count BKBoxing, as something similar to MMA, Paulie would be top 5 boxers in the history to try something like this out, behind Mercer, Toney, and so on, but he would be ahead of guys like Nishijima, and way ahead of guys like Noons or Davis, and way way ahead of guys with amatuer boxing background like Crocop, Mousasi and so on.
When I was growing up, there wasn't really MMA, but boxing was what I looked up to when I was growing up. It was the league of toughest men out there, and then k-1, neither sports of which doesn't really get the respect it deserves.
We found out early on that if you can't defend yourself from the ground work, then usually you are finished. So, a high school kid from a few months of BJJ Class might be able to beat Mayweather, yeah that's true. But Marcelo Garcia won't be able to take on two average men in street fight, whereas average golden glove boxer might take out five and more. I mean this whole BJJ eliticism and nowadays I train UFC's never gets old and always fucking lame.
I remember good old days when the fighters at the top level, like Gomi, when he was the number 1 lightweight in the world coming over to the UA for PRIDE event, said he didn't even have a chance against Dela Hoya with one handed, and Gomi in his prime was a better boxer than most, and Fedor I believe was pretty humble about his chances against the best boxers in the world, back then like Klitchko, I think I could be recalling this wrong but it's been a long time, just like DC did recently.
I don't know who is going to win, because there are lot of factors going against Paulie. He's washed up, inactive, brittle hands, small ass joke of a ring, clinches allowed and so on.
But Paulie in prime is much better striker than Lobov in his wildest dreams, and boxing is just as cool as MMA is in its own right, and all these millenials with their cool BJJ gis and UFC t shirt should show some Hespect.
With that said, I don't like Paulie. Hope Lobov smash
