People are being dumb on Maia vs Brown

Should've been

Maia vs Woodley for #1 contender

Thompson vs Lawler

No way in hell Woodley should've got the shot on a weak 2 fight winning streak and 1 year layoff. He must have it real good with Dana behind the scenes with fox.
I'm not a big Woodley fan but your nuts. So Thompson should get a title shot for beating a guy Woodley couldn't fight because the guy missed weight. It's not Woodleys fault Hendricks ate too much deer meat. Woodley deserves his shot! He even has a win over Condit injury or not and Condit got the last shot

Woodley deserves a shot over Wonderboy because .... he didn't get to fight Hendricks? But the guy who DESTROYED Hendricks in a round doesn't deserve a shot? LOL.

Are you high

After reading thread title I was wondering which direction you would go TS. I could see an "I told you so" either way with Brown via striking or Maia via grappling.

I like both fighters, this is a fun good fight

however, it would be nice to see Brown finally get that title shot, Maia had his time

I cant pick a winner, but i think, on the ground, its almost a lock Maia got dis

Isnt Brown like -300?

Anyways, Brown is a better fighter. Hes gonna squash Maia.

Sherdog spec-heads at it again.

This is the common spec-head case where people look at the stats and assume it represents the present product.

Matt Brown hasn't been submitted in 5 years.

He's pretty much only fought strikers for the last 5 years with the exception of hendricks, which he lost.

Look, every one understands that it wasn't woodley's fault that he couldn't fight Hendricks, but that doesn't change the fact that Woodley did not fight Hendricks; Wonderboy did, and he destroyed him. I don't understand why people think Woodley should be gifted a title shot just because his opponent pulled out last minute. His last win was an unconvincing split decision over Gastelum....

Wonderboy and Maia both have a stronger claim to the title shot than Woodley.

Browne has been submited 9 times...However he has evolved the most among all veterans...He was absolutely manhandling Silva on the ground and Silva is a black belt...Made it look like Silva was a blue belt.
I doubt Maia can just sub him like others did in the past.
One interesting insight about that fight which seems to be all about wether or not Brown can keep this standing : Maia's takedowns come almost exclusively from the clinch. The only times Brown is taken down is against powerful wrestlers like Hendricks, with a double leg shoot. Brown is extremely strong in the clinch due to his muay thai style, so its going to be interesting to see how Maia can deal with Brown's clinch while trying to take him down and if he can avoid eating knees and elbows in the process.
I can see Maia winning a UD by controling Brown on the ground, but I also see a UD for Brown over a bloodied Maia, possibly a TKO late in the 3rd.

Oh one last important thing : this card is happening in Brazil with all brazilian stars fighting home...expect most of them to be loaded with banned substances thus performing much better than usual.

With that glass bod of his, Maia won't even have to go for the takedown. Just graze dem love handles and Brown will be down, squirming.

Maia's got one of the best duck under single leg takedown's in the game, he just needs to make sure he doesn't eat a knee on the way in.

He is amazing at getting takedowns from the clinch, but he has other tools.

I hope Maia walks through him and gets a deserved title shot
I know Rory will beat wonderboy which pretty much guarantees a shot for Maia.

Rory may not beat Wonderboy. Wonderboy has great striking and Rory has been in wars. Who knows what happens.

Rory too big too strong good reach great wrestling and jiu jitsu.
Wonderboy is a great striker. Big deal Rory's chin is rock hard.. Ate the best of the best shots from lawler and kept going like a beast

if you saw Maia vs Fitch its going to look like that except brown is a bit tougher than fitch but has less tdd than him so expect brown to endure way more punishment while getting mounted much quicker.

Brown can scrap a win out, He's so good at just making it a rough fight.

If I had to make a bet I would probably pick Brown honestly, it just seems like the safer pick.

a dude whos been subed 9 times, whos not a power puncher, not a wrestler is facing the best grapper whos only been ko/tko once in his entire career, whos taken down every single opponent (that inlcudes shields, and I dont think even GSP took shields down) seems like a safe bet becasue he can make it dirty?

dude, forget about working... gambling is your thing.
