People are being dumb on Maia vs Brown

Refer to the Rory fight. Maia looke super sharp until he took some damage and was not even 25% as effective as he was by the start of round 3.

Granted Rory is a beast and Brown isn't quite on that level.

Maia had a better round three than round 3 in the Rory fight.

That belt level cliche works for most people but not Maia

Yeah, he has to pass from "really world class black belt" to "somewhat world class black belt" to "good black belt" to "average black belt" first.

I made a thread about predictions a few days ago,

Most favour Maia, but he uses the clinch to get his take-downs and Brown is an absolute butcher in the clinch, so over three rounds there are danger points in this fight for Maia,

Matt Brown is gonna lose his weakness is grapplers, he has to keep it standing. Well guess what Maia has to keep it on the ground his weakness is striking. First round vs Rory, Maia dominated him then got tired and was scared shitless standing vs Rory shooting these terrible take downs cause he was scared to set them up with his hands first. I'm not saying Brown won't lose but to talk like it is a guarantee is silly. Just funny how everyone talks how Matt can't get taken down but forget standing Maia is in probably a worse scenario vs Matt than he is with Maia on the ground. Goes both ways folks
I'm mostly looking forward to the clinch, but Brown isn't worlds away from Maia in striking skills. He's distinctly better, but not as though it will make it a mismatch. Maia v Wonderboy on the feet is a mismatch.

I think it's safe to say that Rory is a better striker than Brown, but Maia was actually landing on Rory pretty good in their fight. Granted the threat of the take down does wonders. But Maia has come a long way with his striking.

Browne wont threaten Maia that much IMO. He's not a knockout artist or hits crazy hard. Hes gonna try to break Maia like he did Silva with constant pressure but Maias wrestling/takedowns are damn good now. Once its on the mat its a whole new ballgame. Just a matter of time

Brown has big power, unreal cardio and ever improving. Don't underestimate this guy.

Definitely. His striking is still very basic, but he's got some pop in his left hand and left low kick and he finds a way to land them, so it's not like Brown can just disregard Maia's striking.

I hope Maia walks through him and gets a deserved title shot
I know Rory will beat wonderboy which pretty much guarantees a shot for Maia.

No MMA fighter is scared.

50/50 on who takes this, because everyone knows what happens if it goes to the ground and everyone knows what happens if it stays standing.

can't root against brown though.

hoping to see brown land a mean elbow for a ko

but we will probably see maia grapplefuck him to the floor and strangle him

Should've been

Maia vs Woodley for #1 contender

Thompson vs Lawler

No way in hell Woodley should've got the shot on a weak 2 fight winning streak and 1 year layoff. He must have it real good with Dana behind the scenes with fox.

Brown can scrap a win out, He's so good at just making it a rough fight.

If I had to make a bet I would probably pick Brown honestly, it just seems like the safer pick.

This thread will be bumped on my birthday.

Sherdog spec-heads at it again.

This is the common spec-head case where people look at the stats and assume it represents the present product.

Matt Brown hasn't been submitted in 5 years.
