Pretty sad story. Guy rescued a baby squirrel 7 years ago and made a social media presence out of the journey. Trolls online complained to the state and Wildlife officers seized the squirrel and another rescue animal, a raccoon, from the home. Both animals have since been euthanized "to test for rabies" but to my knowledge you don't need to die to establish whether or not you have rabies. This was some straight government overreach and jackbooted thuggery. Hope the dude can sue.

I'm no rabies expert, but that sounds like bullshit. They don't kill people when they test humans for rabies. Imagine if that was the case.
"We're going to test you to see if you have a deadly virus that will kill you."
"Is the test going to hurt?"
"No, the test is just going to kill you."

I've watched the video and the ridiculous thing it the obvious show of force. Do these government agencies get off on intimidating people? 6-8 guys for a fucking squirrel and a raccoon? Surprised they didn't bring a swat team with them.

First of all to test for rabies you do need to 'destroy' the animal, as it is brain tissue that is needed

Second, yes they do

Okay but what is the point of testing if the animal is dead already. Because the squirrel "bit" one of the officers? That's cooked up bullshit that probably never happened.
Oh it is 100% bullshit and I hate it as much as anyone else... I was just pointing that one thing out

EDIT: I mean they do have to test for rabies if someone was indeed bitten, but the whole situation happening in the first place is clown world 2000

What kind of fucking loser do you have to be to report a dude caring for animals. I didn’t watch the video but unless they suspected abuse, those people can (censored bc idk what Sherdog rules are but I have only the worst things to say).

How do they humans for rabies then? Or if you get bitten do you just get the jab rather than have your brain cut open?

That's so ridiculous. Peanut was really cool and it was awesome seeing their bond. He was rescued, not diseased and living his best life not hurting a soul. Whoever reported it is a piece of shit.

They can do saliva tests in humans I believe but by the time it's detectable that way it's too late

sad, i love those types of vids but I know there are so many miserable souls out there that I don't think it's a good idea putting that out to the world. And people wonder why I avoid as many people as I can, gotta cause problems, that's why.

Gotta keep a low profile if you're doing things like that. Probably some regulations about having those kinds of animals in custody.

I been feeding racoons my leftover food, i'm fat enough. I would never let anyone see me doing it and I do my best to leave it where it won't be there for long, and no one will see it the next day. Some asshole would be pissed, because that's how people are, just miserable. My favorite is a little three legged coon, thats my buddy, haven't seen him in a couple weeks, hope he's ok.

I think I even read somewhere that squirrels rarely even get rabies. Racoons I don't know but I think the odds are somewhat low for those too. I did read racoons carry some diseases.

once again, people's need to document everything on social media leads to something that were all surprised by? it's terrible because there are some miserable people in this world who want nothing more than others to be as miserable as them. stop documenting your life on social media like this. we are all guilty of it some form or fashion and I believe if we could exercise a little restraint there would be fewer problems in the world.

Raccoons carry rabies relatively often.

When was a kid there was a rabid one chewing on my sliding door and trying to get into the house. We couldn’t scare it off and called animal control. A police officer showed up before them and put a bullet in it.

We had a second one in my yard only a few years back. I only saw it on a video that my neighbor filmed. I’m not positive that it was rabies as there’s a chance it could’ve been distemper but it was showing all the symptoms of rabies. It was confused, stumbling, and seemed to have a mini seizure.

Rabies is a terrifying disease. I walk deep into the woods at night to go fishing sometimes and the thought of rabid animals lingers in my mind sometimes. Not really too worried about black bears or coyotes. Although I did see a giant black bear last week.

yup, a sure sign is if they are aggressive. I actually saw a racoon when I was young (19) back in the days when my aread didn't have many racoons, first one I saw scared the shit out of me. I thought it was a cat but it looked so wild and different that I shut the door like a pussy. Not long after, I saw one stand up on it's hind legs and it made some sort of noise at me. I often wondered if it was rabid in later years, but no, I think it just wasn't used to humans. Now, our area has tons of coons, very intelligent, interesting animals. They do carry diseases, not just rabies. Still, they are just like us, trying to get through this bullshit life somehow and only humans think they have more rights than every other thing created by god. My people see animals as their relatives (indians) and I kinda do too.

It's very common to see a couple coons a day run over on the roads, I brake for them but it's obvious no one else gives a fuck for them.
