I'll be honest, after seeing the way Cormier ran through him, I thought the guy was all talk and would be gone after his next fight.

Suprisingly he's managed to put together a decent 3 fight win streak and looking at the rankings is now 15th in the LHW rankings.

Anyone else surprised to see him actually doing well In the UFC?

Also who do people want to see him face next?

I wouldn't mind seeing him face Manuwa in his comeback fight or maybe Lil Nog or Shogun.

    What about you guys?

    He is pretty good.

Actually I thought that he didn't look all that bad in Cormier fight all things considered. 4 fucking fights and short notice.

Looked pretty quick and fluid, which is always good sign.

I think he deserves to be higher than 15th.

I think he beats Lil Nog, and Shogun. Both of them should retire, I haven't seen Manuwa against a legit wrestler so I have no idea how that fight would go. I wouldn't mind seeing him against OSP.

I got laughed at for saying he's a potential top 10 after the Cormier fight. He's a nightmare for a lot of dudes in the division.

I don't want to see him face Manuwa though. Jimi is an exciting guy. I don't want to see him grapple fucked by a vastly inferior striker.

Maldonado is ranked 13th and he's pretty fucking awful, showing being a top 15 LHW means nothing.

That being said, Pat is the real deal and will be top 10 by the end of the year

pretty much this. Being top 15th in a division (ufc or mma in general) doesn't mean much. Didn't they picked him up from a coffee shop just couple weeks b4 the DC fight? Although he had a few fights b4 UFC and a NCAA background, but it just show ya how shallow of a talent pool MMA has as a pro sport.

And he may not be beating Top 10 guys - but he has won 3 of his last 4. The loss coming to a top 10 HW that went to war with JDS and survived. Not sure how hat makes him "Pretty fucking awful"

In a division that falls off pretty quickly after the top quality talent, it's not surprising to see a wrestler of Cummins' calibre be able to string some wins together. He is and always will be limited, but he can probably approach the top 10 on wrestling ability alone considering the talent at LHW.

Excellent point - Lets look at some of the guys in the UFC ranked 11-15...
Brad Pickett, Alex Caceres, Jeremy Stephens, Max Holloway, Clay Guida, Michael Jonhson, Nate Diaz, Rustam Khabiov, Rick Story, Gunnar Nelson, Jake Ellenberger, Costas Philippou, Tim Boetsch, Shogun, Nog LIte, Overeem, Mir, Mitrione - not sure what you're talking about. Some pretty big names, and legit fighters.

That's not saying much. any pro sport/athlete in the top 15 of a position or weight class would out do 99.99999% of worlds population in his/her particular position/role. Also in most other pro sports, the top 15th (might it be short stop, point guard, cornerback, tennis player, race car driver, defender, etc.) would make more than 99.99% of the world population as well.

He looked pretty good and pretty explosive..

He also is a good size for a LHW.
He could be top ten pretty fast , with some striking refining , maybe even 6-7..
It's not like the bottom top ten talent is outstanding to begin with

So you think the overall MMA talent pool as a sport is not shallow? Yeah, prob not if compared to curling lol.

Yup. Only in a couple weight classes where it is more stacked. In current 205, Cummins has a shot.

Because his skills are pretty bad.

His wins over Stringer and Villante out of all people consisted of him getting owned until they gassed in embarrassing way.

Maldonado has good cardio, and unbelievable heart, toughness and that 'fighter's mentality' and props to him for that, but his skills are indeed somehow awful for supposedly top 15 fighter.

It may not be as deep as other professional sports, but to pretend like to be ranked in the top 15 isn't impressive is silly.

Maybe you're impressed by it. No one else need to be impressed by top 15th ranking in ALL divisions. There are couple weight classes are stacked, or most stacked. 205 is not one of them now.
