I mean the "best we've seen out of Cormier" shtick was a stretch but in Joe's defense he reaaally wasn't working with much here. His job is to help hype the fights and he wasn't working with much in a dude who was working at a coffee shop 10 days ago and has 4 fights against shit competition

The post-fight damage control was worse than the pre-fight hype. I can understand getting hyperbolic with the bullshit in order to sell a fight, but after we just saw Cormier make Cummins look like a guy who works at a coffee shop fighting against a world champ, you'd think Joe might have the integrity not to go out there on the mic and act like it was an awesome and meaningful win. But that's just what he did.

I did notice that a bit last night.. I'm trying to ignore it though because I think Joe has been incredible his entire tenure as announcer.. I hope the UFC brass, or fox hasn't had a few chats about changing his style or even giving him more direction as to what he should be eluding to.

KEEP IN MIND though. The annoucers job is to entertain as well! If he were to have said "Cummins... Never fought anyone, took a fight on 10 days notice, going against a vet who's undefeated and been nothing short of dominant his entire mma career as a HW, and the only reason he MOVED down to LHW was because his best training partner is the champ there currently.. Look for Pat to get smashed inside the first minute".

I don't think that would be as entertaining. Giving us a little hope that a miracle may happen for someone helped build the suspense, regardless of the outcome. Yes, we were brought back to reality, but we did get that feeling of "what if" that we're paying for, so you do get that entertainment value and suspense.

This 100%. Joe doesn't work for Sherdog/Grantlant/ESPN, where the job of writers and commentators is to dissect every fault with every sport. Those sites thrive on writers bashing athlete/coach X. Joe works for the UFC and he gets paid handsomely for what is now a cushy position. You want him to say "this fight is fucking retarded, Cummins doesn't belong in the same cage as Cormier, everyone is better off turning on college basketball tonight" ?

I laugh at the pre fight hype the ufc did but I know thats what they need to do. But when Cummins is walking out please stop feeding us the bull. You already got people to watch, no need to hype it anymore....lol
