how come he wasn’t successful in the UFC? He had a decent run in Strikeforce & a win over Jim Miller but could never put it together?

Couldn't handle the stiff competition in the UFC. The guys he lost against were simply better than his Strikeforce wins.

When he fought Jim Miller, I couldn't tell who was who. Great fight though.

He was a grinder and a half. By the time he got to the UFC, he was starting to slip. His peak is probably his win (or NC) over Miller. His fight with Josh Thomson was epic.

Solid, hardworking fighter. I think having his win against Miller overturned effected him mentally. Plus, he was at the limit of what hardwork and dedication could achieve.

He was a top ranked LW in Strikeforce...but they had a really weak LW division other than Melendez & Josh Thomson

Josh Thomson and Melendez were kind of like the Cain/JDS of the HW division around 2011

I agree that he was well-rounded, but not exceptional in any one area, and peaked well before getting to UFC.

did you actually watch any of his more recent fights, or check the fightfinder, or just start this dumb thread after watching a couple old Strikeforce events?
