Pat Barry's increasingly bad reputation in Colorado.

Hopefully this doesn't fall under fighter bashing. I'm actually a big fan. Went to see him at the Glory event a couple years ago just because he was there.

Anyway, I recently became friends with this guy who is a local fighter. He's a journeyman, nothing special but he had a few fights.

Anyway I was depressed to hear that apparently Pat has a brutal reputation for beating the shit out of volunteer training partners, etc. It was somewhat confirmed when just days after I heard that, there was a Facebook/twitter rant from him going off about people accusing him of that, and also several people attacking him by saying that it's in fact true, and that's why he keeps moving to different gyms.

Again, not saying it's true, but it's definitely out there. Almost like a Lombard or Overeem thing. Anyone else heard about this?

Yah some training partners are like that, iv been beaten up quite a few times by 200 pound guys I had no business sparring.

Used to love pat, grew to dislike him. Fights like an idiot and just wasn't very good at mma.

I've heard the same. Essentially you just don't want to spar with him. He's awesome outside of that.

There are different schools of thought on sparring. Let's not pretend there is just one standard and Pat Berry is not meeting it.

i've learned that when a guy starts to build up a reputation like this, it's often somewhat true

you almost never hear about fighters with reps like this otherwise. doesn't just come out of nowhere

I know several people that have trained with Barry in the past and they said he was obviously tough to spar with, because he's very skilled, but they didn't make it sound abusive or anything. Can't speak on Colorado affairs though.

Not only was he not very good at MMA. He wasnt very good at kickboxing as well. Probably why he tried doing mma. Overall. He's not a very good fighter. But he can sure beat up on gym scrubs who work as male nurses and baristas
