So this may sound stupid to the science types on this forum but this is my underlying issue with this version of the many worlds theory. Please explain why I am wrong. So there is a finite amount of energy in the universe or multiverse. It can not be created or destroyed. So according to this theory everytime you start with one action the universe splits into mutiply universe. That is a lot more energy/matter than there intially was. How does that work. I can get behind a single set of multiply universes but I can't get my head around that set expanding everytime there is an action.

I bet this generates nowhere near the chatter the penis-shaming thread has.:D

Your title is a lot more certain than the quote from scientists. They called it a possible explanation for why quantum mechanics acts so strange, and not pure fantasy.

    Will it target a gun-free multi-plex?

Sounds like a good time to share this video.

Summary: Intricate math comes down to probabilities as opposed to certainties, and those probabilities can be manipulated by introducing "convenient" variables.

And when you get a convenient result, it gets attention as opposed to the inconvenient results.

It's interesting. The more of these theories that come out, the lower my understanding of where the science stands and where it's going.

That's only one of infinite possibilities.

Science is man made just like religion... in time we will get better methods than these two to understand the world.

For now you should put as much faith in this theory as you would put in Jesus.

EDIT: ok i am too high for sherdgo, time to go to bed lol

Science and religion is not at all alike. Religion clearly states how things supposedly are, while science is just a way to gain and organize information. Where religion stops, content with having provided an answer, the scientific view is always ready to reevaluate everything as new evidence comes along. Therefor science never goes away, our knowledge and understanding just continues to change.

I say that there is another dimension, an unseen spiritual realm. With angels and demons. But there is only one you and one me.

"So there is a finite amount of energy in the universe"
I think this is the problem with your assumption if there is indeed a multiverse.

That said, I've had many physics classes. If I've learned anything at all it is that I don't know shit. Academically I was always above average, but I remember my first physics classes (newtonian and E&M) in college and making a 20 on a test and that getting curved to a C (which was average). Those that remained physics majors would make 80's and 90's on the shit. The problem with physics is, you think you understand it, but you don't.

I mean, I took a class on QM and I don't even understand this modern pop sci whacky shit. Way over my head. Wish I could help.

I'm willing to bet the math they are working with here is a little more complicated than statistical probability. Apples and oranges.

This video represents how dealing with data is flawed. The TS is referencing way more theoretical abstract mathematics.

That's all well and good with your "science", but what are @Scyther and @ripskater's opinion on this matter?

The multiverse theory was only created to explain away the inconsistencies with the string theory. The idea is a mathematical abstract, there's no actual experimental evidence of it. At this point in time we simply don't understand the fundamental mechanisms of the universe, it's almost a guarantee that the string theory is incomplete or flat-out incorrect to begin with, hence any additional theories that stem from it are suspect anyway. A fundamental theory should be that, fundamental, you shouldn't need to slap-on speculation to make it work.
