Held too long or not (I don't think he did), doesn't matter.

Please don't mention it here, there are already 20 other threads on the first page about it.

Was that submission slick or what?? Over Jake Shields who I reckon has never been submitted in MMA before.
Palhares is a beast and could very well fight for the title in the UFC.
I would love to see him back, although I know it's never going to happen.

Would love to see him against Okami and Askren next, if he can do the same thing to those guys I don't know who could beat him.

You don't see such fluid technique in a high level high stakes competition very often. Should be celebrated for that instead of focusing on the fighter's rep.

It was a great sub, but a dirty fight.

Agreed. Toquinho is a rare talent and we should be appreciative of the chance to watch him fight.

It's amazing how many black belts he makes cry. I always said Mir had the most brutal subs in mma, but Palhares has taken it to another level. Guys just scream out in pain when he gets a hold of them. So when a guy who looks like Palhares perfects moves designed to break bones and tear ligaments, on top of being mentally slow, well I guess it is a deadly combination. It would be nice to see him finish a fight without controversy, but I'm afraid that it isn't possible anymore. People actually break down his finishes by counting how many seconds it takes the ref to get there and how long he holds on, instead of just the beauty of the sub. It's a shame, but because of a few earlier incidents in his career, that will always be the case.

    I appreciate!
I have never seen such dominance in grappling before.
Would be fun to see him grapple Keenan! :D

Palhares is an animal and I was really impressed with his sub over Shields and Fitch for that matter. I didn't see anything wrong with the submission if I'm honest. But what I will say is a lot more of him not letting go was due to that idiot referee not forcing him to let go and instead tapping on him. Personally have always loved watching Palhares fight as you know something crazy is going to happen. Would love him vs Okami or him vs Askren next.

Isn't there a video of him catching mayhem in a arm lock, while they were grappling? I think it was mayhem, anyway, back before he lost his mind. Paul Harris is a beast on the ground.

His submissions are cool but I have trouble respecting Palhares. He cranked on the sub for too long again for about the 10000th time and is an obvious PED abuser.

He's a really good fighter and might have the best submissions in MMA it's a shame he can't fight the best in the UFC. Him vs Maia would be sick.

Was just watching UFC best submissions 2, and they have four leg lock/heel hooks in a row by Palhares.
Amazing the way he rolls and hooks from beneath.

Controversy aside, it was fucking fantastic. His dim bulb in the attic kept it from becoming adored for the thing of beauty it was by taking focus away to another one of his derp moments.

It's like "Palhares submits Shields (holy shit!) but holds the lock too long, causing post-stoppage blows (shit, WTF?)." That glancing punch was just the start, Jake was lining up a soccer kick when the ref intervened. He was burnt up.

That is one way to put it, I suppose.

Submission was slick slick slick, though.
