He was released. I don't think he's banned although it's very unlikely he'll return.

On one hand, I understand their decision and can't blame them.

On the other hand it sucks that we won't be able to see him compete against many top competitors. I mean he can go to Bellator and rip some more legs off, but it's just not the same.

Well if it's true it was to be expected and I believe it's safe to say he brought it on himself...
Such behaviour can ruin the public image of MMA in general.

what a money hungry scheme, right there. dana figures he can't keep a serious competitor like paul harris around because he'll end up ending the careers of fighters that are fan favorites who still bring in revenue. dana could care less about the health and safety of fighters. exactly.

yeah, dana is afraid of losing money. it has nothing to do with the fact that palhares has done this several times, has been popped for banned substances and generally acts like he cannot grasp the rules everyone else understands just fine.

have i lost my mind or are all of you 14 years old?

If this were an isolated incident then I might be inclined to give Palhares the benefit of the doubt, but unfortunately he has a long history of doing this kind of thing, and based on that I don't have any problem with the punishment. I don't know what's going through his head when he's holding on to these submissions, but it really doesn't matter anymore. It's simply unacceptable, and a message needed to be sent. Maybe if Palhares had gotten a stiff suspension the last time he did this he would have gotten that message, but then again maybe not. Clearly the 90-day suspension he did receive didn't do the trick.

Sorry guys, was following Ariel Helwani's tweet saying he was banned from the UFC but he has corrected himself and confirmed that he is released but not banned.

There's contradicting information out there but I think he's only been released.

Whats so exciting about him? we know he sucks at pretty much everything but that leglock of him.

He either gets it or does the Bob Sapp. He is IMO too inconstant for we to ignore his lack of regard for the rules.

The excitement comes from not knowing what's going to happen. Will he take out a high level opponent with a sick leg lock? Or will he get smashed? For me, that's an interesting fight.

So basically, can the guy defend Palhares leglock?

I would agree if Palhares at least tried after his leglock failed, but as of now, IMO he is not worth the risk of injuring fighters.

I agree, and that's why I said I think they made the right decision to cut him. I'm just disappointed that I don't get to see him do his leglocks against the guys in the UFC anymore.

Hopefully he gets to compete in ADCC which is IMO the right venue for him.

Really? I just re-watched the last incident vs Tomasz Drwal, Drwal tapped several times and screamed as well - and the ref still had to pry Palhares off of his leg:

And there were other incidents like this before Palhares ever made it to the UFC.

he goes for broke and he waits for the ref to call it, nothing wrong with it... as soon as the ref calls it it is less than a second till he lets go

I just wish the UFC were consistent. If you have to cut someone, fine, but they seem real selective about who is allowed to deliver late subs or strikes.

This got Rampage a KOTN bonus

This got BJ Penn a SOTN bonus

If your opponent has tapped multiple times on your body and screamed to boot, there is no need to wait for the ref. Not to mention that the ref in the Drwal match had to literally tug on Toquinho's arms twice before he let go. That's ridiculous.
