Yes Mallorca is also known as "the 17th federal state of germany"
Getting wasted, drinking sangria out of buckets and party/scuffle on the Ballermann (part of the promenade where this brawl took place) is everyday life of the german tourist in Palma de Mallorca. If you go to the north-east part of the island it's the complete opposite tough. In Alcudia there are a lot of german and british people for a road bike holiday. Some mountain passes like Sa Calobra have like three times more bikes on the road than cars.
