Checking the dunny before taking a seat is second nature to most Aussies living in rural areas, but a young Sydney man learned the lesson in the hardest way this morning when a redback spider bit his penis.
The nasty nip came in a portaloo in Kogarah, in Sydney's south, about 8.45am this morning, prompting a trip to St George Hospital where the 21-year-old was admitted in a stable condition.
The victim was able to get himself to the mercifully-close emergency room for treatment, The Daily Telegraph reports.
Although its fangs are loaded with deadly venom, the notorious redback spider rarely causes death, with anti-venom having been available for more than 50 years.
