My parents are big into nutrition and holistic medicine and typically they do well in terms of getting legit stuff but lately theres a ton of Oxygenated water here at my house. The bottles claim that the water contains 50 times more oxygen than regular water.

Logically to me, the stuff seems useless. I don't see the water actually holding the oxygen and if it did, I don't see it absorbing through your stomach anyways.

Anybody have any studies or information either way on the stuff.

I don't know much about this whole oxygenated water thing, but I do know this: humans get their oxygen through the process of respiration. Negative pressure ventilation as achieved through contraction of the diaphragm (producing negative intrathoracic pressure) draws air into the lungs. Oxygen then diffuses across the alveolar membranes down a gradient into the alveolar capillaries, which then binds to hemoglobin molecules in a ratio of 4 O::O to 1 heme. This ligand-substrate complex is then transported throughout your body via your cardiovascular system.

I also know that any air you ingest goes out your poop-chute in what is scientifically referred to as a flatus, a.k.a. a fart.

Oxygen is dissolvable in H20. That is how fish breath. It isn't very soluable though, hence why we use hemoglobin in bood to transfer oxygen rather than just having it dissolve in the blood. Therefore all water we drink has oxygen in it (besides the oxygen in the H20) but there is no way to utlize it in the stomach.

Shaolin, did you come up with that paragraph yourself? If you did I would be impressed as it is quite eloquent and scientific. Granted its horrible for the audience, its written quite well.

water is already made of oxygen i dont know if u even can put more oxygen into it than there already is

Hey Rjkd12, yes I wrote that myself. I guess this whole med school thing has its perks... I get to share my knowledge with pimply 14 year olds on forums such as these.

u just answered ur own question right there..

it's crap

My wife just tried to talk me into buying several hundred dollars of that stuff a couple of days ago...I told her I didn't care if it worked or not it was too damned expensive. From reading this thread sounds like I made a good decision.

i saw a doctor talk about it on tv, he claimed that it was totaly useless since the amount of oxygen in the water is to small to make a differance anyway (he gave smart long ass answer but i kinda summorized it)

wait....... what about ionized water is that shit a fake? my mom bought a machine cost like 1500 that makes ionized water come out

Ionized water is just a bunch of bogus claims.

Yeah, the human body totally can't benefit from ionized water, don't bother drinking it or wasting any money on it...

Holy shit, people actually believe this crap? They should have their high school diplomas taken back.

Haha, at work we have DE-ionized water, and I mostly drink that. That and reverse osmosis purified.

I was under the impression that you can put more oxygen into it, and that this is what divers use when practicing highdiving, so that if they screw up and hit the water, the landing won't be as hard if the water has more oxygen in it.
But I have never heard of it having medicinal value to drink it.

total crap dont buy this stuff.. i'd explain more but i'm lazy trust me
