Media Overeem's lip injury broken down by a doctor.

He looks like he got hit by a Buick.

And I should know. Buicks are big and heavy. It's why they're not allowed to fight in the UFC. Well, that, and their gas tested positive for hydrazine. Those are the only two reasons.

That time had nearly expired and that his opponent deemed Reem finished are both irrelevant. Reem was done. And that was decisive.

It was the equivalent of being in a tight choke, beginning to go out but not tapping and the ref forcing the release of the choke at the final bell. It's called "saved by the bell". The fighter in that choke in that scenario, had he outpointed his opponent on the scorecards, would have been declared the winner.

No, Overeem was not saved by the bell. The fight was over prior to the bell sounding.

Considering he has so many losses and is clearly not champ material the only way he ever gets the belt now would be by a stroke of luck or favorable matchmaking.

Why are you so desperate for Overeem to get a title shot?

You wouldn't want your favorite fighter to earn the HL of their career and retire in the best way possible?

I was talking about what should have happened... the basis on which it should be considered an early and poor stoppage. Try to keep up.

That is not what should have happened. What should have happened is what did happen. No need to get chippy about it.

the referee didn't stop Overeem from incurring more harm. in fact, the referee was too fucking slow to get there to save Overeem had Rozenstriuk chosen to punch him again.

the fact Rozenstriuk turned around and began to walk away and celebrate before the referee even did anything should alone, tell you that it was a bad stoppage. not to mention that Overeem immediately gets back up.

the ref should've been waving the fight off as he rushed in, OR waved the fight off as soon as he got there to break it. but he didn't, he waited until Overeem stood back up and wobbled over to the corner before he saw his lip and actually stopped the fight.

basically the fight was stopped because the referee was disgusted by Overeem's cut, not because Overeem wasn't intelligently defending himself or because Rozenstriuk was unloading power strikes on him.

nobody is arguing that the cut isn't bad or that it would've been horrible had he continued to take damage or that it would've been fair to stop the fight if it occurred with more time on the clock, but 5 secs, the dude is still awake and conscious, and the other guy has already walked off is a bad stoppage.

I personally applaud Rozenstriuk fantastic sportsmanship and judgement.

I heard an interview with Rozenstruik on Luke Thomas's show. He said that he walked way because he saw Mirg running towards them out of the corner of his eye. Mirg also puts his hands on Rozenstruik when he ran in. That wasn't a premature celebration. He was reacting to the ref.
Ok.. Palhares also stopped fighting and celebrated when he thought the ref was running in. He's now called mentally handicapped and laughed at for doing one of the dumbest things of all time in a fight. Rozenstruik walking away like that before the ref got a hold of him to move him off Overeem just means that he gave Overeem enough time to get to the bell. What a bad stoppage.
