Does anyone else think that Overeem leaves himself completely open when he steps in with knees? Last night I noticed big openings just as he is stepping in to land the knee and seemed to me that a more well rounded striker could easily capitalize on this. Not to mention how he would just turtle up against the cage which would be a very bad idea against JDS or Hunt. Also how does Overeem go in a 5 rnd main event?

Roy timed him a couple times coming in. Surprised he didn't get rocked to be honest. Against Hunto or JDS those shots might've crumpled him. I don't think he would throw them so recklessly against those guys though.
As for when he just shells up against the fence and doesn't move- that's just a bad habit from Golden Glory days or something (big gloves make all the difference with that type of defense), and he will pay for it more times than not. Roy was just too out of shape to capitalize.
Would like to see him go on a run but the chin is too much of a liability against the best strikers at HW. I don't think JDS will go down from a knee to the body. It's possible, but not likely.

Yea, he's exposed. He leaps in, his hands are at his waist and his chin is in the air

Defense was never his strong suit. He used to hide behind those gloves in K-1 but he can't do that in mma

Alistair's chin is pretty average tbh, it isn't horrible, but his defense and recovery are just as bad as they could possibly be; maybe he just wants it to end when things start to go wrong. When he talks about his first couple of years kickboxing things start to make sense; he didn't like it at all and his brother and other training partners used to beat him terribly. Still just a scared kid who doesn't want to be there, deep inside of course.

Yeah, his defense is close to non-existant.

Against the fence Overeem had his hands up. That was a refreshing change since the times he fought under the Blackzillions name.

Exactly. When he won the K1 GP he would put his goves up, tuck his chin down, and uses his big ass shoulders to cover the side if his jaw.

With mma gloves and no horse meat in the UFC, he can't do that anymore. I can remember two times he tried that last night and was lucky he wasn't KO'ed. I think the top tier heavyweights will break down that defense easily.

i missed the fight and am not really qualified to comment, but damn. Big Country landed quite a punch there and Reem didn't fold. i read he was dropped in the final round, but got up just as quickly.

does this not bode somewhat fairly well for his chin? (i think hendo's seems worse, these days.)

Reem looked FAST.

It's crazy that Roy faces these guys when they are at their best lol.

Ever think that this is because Roy makes them look good? I like Roy, but he is the definition of a slow lumbering heavyweight. He made Miocic look like Demetrious Johnson.

Well, I'll definitely say I was worried a couple of times that Overeem was gonna get finished, but he actually stayed fairly composed. In reality Reem dominated the fight, but because you know he can't take much of a shot, the bits of good offense Roy had seemed worse than they were.

A well timed jab from JDS or Hunto would drop him I reckon leaping in like that.

He had good hand positioning in his fights with Brett Rogers(One of his better performances) and Werdum(Not one of his best performances but definitely against high level comp) but ever since he fought Brock, who it's acceptable to have your hands down against, he's kept his hands in stupid positions. Smh worthy.

Reem, despite getting wobbled with the very few shots that Nelson threw his way, looked fantastic. Probably his 2nd best performance in the UFC after the dismantling of Brock.

The way he puts his hands down to his waist... Not a fan.

K1 Champ and beating the likes of Aerts and Hari, not bad for a scared kid.

Its nice to see Overeem fast and not so lumbering and actually trying to avoid shots. Covering himself up against the cage or backpedaling won't work against JDS or Cain though. I am not sure if Overeem can beat the current version of Werdum(he has looked great as of late) even.

I am a fan of him and hopefully he continues to improve his game and stick with a gameplan.

terrible defense. That being said, i think he has a great shot against current JDS.

That had me in fucking stitches. Total "derp" moment for the Reem.
