Texas farmers have been hit hard by the effects of the White House led tariffs and trade disputes with China. According to the Waco Tribune, cotton-farmers in the Lone Star State have shouldered the brunt of this impact - as China buys about half of the cotton grown in Texas.

By last week's deadline to file, more than 11,000 Texas farmers had applied for government assistance because they were “suffering from damages due to unjustified trade retaliation." According to the report, farmers in the state have already received $72 million in the payouts designed to soften the blow of China's refusal to by Texas' agricultural goods. Nationwide, 864,000 farmers have applied for the bailouts - receiving a whopping $8 billion in payments.

So it's socialism when poor people get handouts but it's a bailout when farmers get handouts? I just hope they drug test every one of these farmers because I don't want my tax dollars going to some lazy farmer who can't pull himself up by his bootstraps.

That's fine. The land must be returned to the indigenous people of North America anyway.

EDIT: Unless some of those struggling farms belong to Native America people - those farmers obviously deserve government support.

Dum Dum Donny keeps adding to the debt. He has added 2 trillion since he has been in office. Now he sets up trade wars and only bails out his voting base due to his trade wars. Tech firms in California don't have a prayer of getting socialist bailouts, because they vote Democrat.
Every day, Trump shows just how over his head he is in the job of being President. He is more concerned with what Alec Baldwin is saying on SNL, watching 8 hours of Fox news and playing golf that he is in running this country.

Never mind the temporary oversupply of agriculture products from bumper crops the last several years, it's solely tariffs!

The problem is much deeper than this. It's the Farmer himself, and his culture of begging for handouts. What we really need to do is be tough on farmers to teach them self-reliance.

I feel that we have a culture set up where if farmers keep getting free stuff they will never go to work again. They will never get out of poverty

I say bail out the farmers by creating a tax program that only taxes people who voted for Hillary or Bernie. Use that money to help our farmers and also to build the wall!!! MAGA bitches!

The right wing silence in this thread is deafening lol

We need @Farmer Br0wn expert opinion on why people like him ask the government for free stuff

My guess is he will deliver a trite one-liner such as, “Never curse a farmer with your mouth full” without any substantial discourse.

I realized long ago that guy is just into trolling.

It's true. And their tractor pulls and country music only compound these problems. Sure, there are some good farmers out there taking responsibility for themselves, but it's the culture itself that is rotten.

@Ornife why would it just be given back? If you're truly in favor of "righting" all the wrongs done in history, then it sounds like the natives should forceably take the land back. The same way they lost it.

I understand your position, but it's important to remember that some farmers are People of Colour and are therefore deserving of assistance.

@zebby23 wow. Texas/farmers/trump.
You musta been chompin at da bit to post this thread huh zebbo

I blame the country music.

Also, the materialistic culture of buying big superloaded trucks when a mid-size would do just fine.
