Can’t decide, the Silva one I’m definitely bias towards since in addition to its historical importance it was the loading screen for my favorite UFC game lol

When I think of iconic MMA photo, I think of something that captures it as a unique sport. Because of this, I'm disqualifying the Fedor and Silva pics. The images of a fighter walking away from his sleeping opponent or one landing a perfectly placed kick could be replicated in other sports.

So now we have to ask ourselves what makes MMA unique. There are two answers. The first is one discipline contrasting with another. In the first picture, we get that. We have an unorthodox fighter facing a pure specialist. Sakuraba's finding a unique way to avoid a death trap that would only be available to him in MMA. It's the sport.

The second answer however, is what we love. It's that MMA bouts are TRUE fights. One human versus another human. And with the obvious exception of dirty stuff, they're not limited. It's raw nature, except unlike grizzly bears fighting for mates however, fighters are accompanied by their human emotions in the cage. The Lawler picture perfectly encapsulates that, and thus, I'm picking it.

Dan Henderson is my goat and that knockout is truly iconic.

It never does it for me because I feel like Rory was in the process of breaking and that was to save face more than an authentic reaction. I like Rory too

I voted Rory / Robbie but I realise that was just my own personal bias. Plus I have to agree with everyone else in that the picture just doesnt compare to experiencing the situation unfold as a sequence. This one captures more of the iconic in just a simple picture IMO.

But really Saku wins. Most of us hardcore fans come from that time and it holds that special something that will never be and never can be again. I think you had to have experienced to the Gracie domination to really get the context of that picture and what it meant. To go from people being so fucking scared of Royce they were tapping to double grapevines to that was the end of an era.

Also, Fedor / Arlovski is by far the Sherdog belt winner. I've seen that posted here way more than any of the others.

And I dont understand the Silva picture being included. That one has never really been anything "special" in the sense that it captures something icinic about MMA for most people.
