Roxy Music - More Than This

Sade - Smooth Operator

Kate Bush - Running Up That Hill

Huey Lewis & The News - The Power Of Love

Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy

Luther Vandross - Here and Now

Biz Markie - Just A Friend

Men At Work - Down Under

Michael Jackson - Beat It

The Cars - Drive

INXS - Never Tear Us Apart

Duran Duran - New Moon On Monday

Madonna - Live To Tell

Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me)

Running up that hill is an absolutely top tier tune imo

I agree it's a great tune. Kate Bush is a national/international treasure. And I can't believe Kate Bush is finally going to be in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame this year. Congrats to her, she's as unique as it comes.

Land Down Under might be my favourite song from the 80s lol

Beat It one of the better MJ songs

Also picked Just a Friend, Sexual Healing, and Don't You...Forget About Me

Jesus, this is the toughest one yet for the 80's.

It killed me to cut "Everybody Wants to Rule the World" by Tears for Fear, but that was the last to go. Feels sacrilegious. Had to choose between them and Huey Lewis. The hardest part of it is that I think the first is the better actual song, but Huey overpowers them with his superior vocals and performance. I'm not sure it would hold up as well covered by other bands or at a karaoke competition. But with Huey singing it...oh boy.

"Just a Friend" is also one of the coolest songs ever written, and I couldn't make room for it. Plus it's surreal that "Beat It" by Michael Jackson doesn't make my Top 5 (but that was always my least favorite of his megahits).

Fucking brutal.

lol yeah this one was tough one for me as well. The Tears for Fears song is a classic and I didn't even choose it also. And I agree Huey Lewis vocals in that song is incredible.

Great threads. Once again, super hard to pick just 5...in no particular order:

Kate Bush - Running up that Hill
New Order - Bizarre Love Triangle
Marvin Gaye - Sexual Healing
Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives me Crazy (underrated album, IMHO)
Fleetwood Mac - Everywhere

Tears for Fears - Everybody Wants to Rule the World (weakest of my top 5 imo and still thinking I should have switched with Biz Markie)
Kate Bush - Running up that Hill (no need to explain)
Fine Young Cannibals - She Drives Me Crazy (one of the songs of my childhood and pleasantly surprised to see it getting a lot of love here)
Men at Work - Land Downunder (always a good sign when a pop song becomes a kind of unofficial national anthem)
Michael Jackson - Beat It (voting for this more for its influence than personal meaning)

Damn some good ones hard to just pick 5

Sexual healing
Smooth operator
Drive
Don't you forget about me
Live to tell / here and now
