Once set to take place in the spring, Nordine Oubaali and Nonito Donaire will now help close the show.

The bantamweight title fight which has been months in the making will headline the December 12 edition of Showtime Championship Boxing. The show is tentatively scheduled to air live from a crowdless Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, Connecticut, though that dynamic could change depending on the status of the ongoing coronavirus delay which caused a months-long delay in the fight seeing the light of day.

An accompanying undercard has yet to be announced for what will serve as the last of a nine-event block announced by Showtime on Wednesday.

That's a darn good fight - and a challenging one for Oubaali if Donaire hasn't lost a step. It will be interesting to see how Nordine's chin holds on, as he has never got hit with this kind of pop.
 
Espinoza is also ready to put on the mandatory fight between newly crowned junior featherweight world titlist Angelo Leo (20-0, 9 KOs), 26, of Albuquerque, and mandatory challenge Stephen Fulton (18-0, 8 KOs), 26, of Philadelphia. They were due to fight on Aug. 1 in the main event of Showtime’s first card back since the coronavirus pandemic began but Fulton came down with Covid-19 and was forced to pull out of the fight.

Leo went on to outpoint replacement opponent Tramaine Williams to claim a vacant 122-pound world title with Fulton due the first crack at it.

“We heard from Fulton the minute he tested negative and was feeling better. He’s anxious to do the fight,” Espinoza said. “I think it is possible maybe before the end of the year, worst case early next year. I think it’s an intriguing matchup. We’re definitely going to do it. If we can squeeze it in before the end of the year, we’d love to. If not, it’s early next year.”

Espinoza said one landing spot for Leo-Fulton could be on the Dec. 12 card headlined by Nordine Oubaali’s bantamweight title defense against Nonito Donaire. There are two televised undercard slots for that card and neither has been filled yet.



“We’re in those conversations now. We could plug in Fulton and Leo there,” he said.

Donaire has COMPLETELY lost a step. Many, actually. I think that Monster fight might have been his great last stand. It takes a lot to go back to that place, and Donaire doesn't have the age on his side to get much of a resurgence.

Donaire is one of my favourite because he is entertaining, and has integrity (VADA 365/24/7), but I think he loses.

It was confirmed on Thursday he is out due to visa issues. Also it was confirmed Manny’s camp, he is facing Nonito. WBC put the French kid as the champ in recess and this fight is for the interim

WBC head honcho Mauricio Sulaiman tells ESPN that bantamweight champion Nordine Oubaali will be unable to defend his title against Nonito Donaire on December 12th; as a result, the Frenchman will be named champion in recess while “The Filipino Flash” takes on former IBF champion Emmanuel Rodriguez for the vacant belt. The winner must then fight Oubaali when that becomes feasible.
