I know Melendez is getting a shot at Bendo. How bout the other guys, even though he isn't technically champion I think Cormier would be lot more interesting than Sonnen. They might as well give a title shot to Rockhold, the list of people Silva hasn't beat yet is pretty short, same with Saffiedeine and GSP.
The other champions aren't on the same level as Gilbert. They need 1 or 2 fights against top contenders before their shots.
Cormier would have been a good choice if he didn't refuse to fight Cain. But they probably really want Reem to fight for the title anyway.
Cormier likely would've got JDS had he won, and it looks like he will be next for Jones. Him not getting it is simply a matter of circumstance and timing. Rockhold I can see getting the shot (and might be part of why he didn't fight at the last show). There aren't a great number of viable contenders, and I don't think Bisping (should he somehow get past Vitor) is any more worthy of a shot than Luke. Saff I doubt. There are a few viable contenders in the UFC already (Diaz being next, Hendricks and Ellenberger likely fighting for the one after that, and who knows about a rematch should GSP lose to any of 'em), and Tarec is a little too "unknown". He had a great showing against Nate, but he had a lackluster showing against Woodley (who gave a textbook lay-and-pray performance), and the UFC's WW division is chock full of wrestlers (GSP being the best of 'em all). Give him a solid fighter (Kos? Someone who can test his wrestling, but isn't completely afraid of striking with him) And who else do they have?
Tarec and Rockhold are still very green Rockhold's boxing did not look up to par against Kennedy, which should have been a showcase for him on the feet.
Rockhold doesn't deserve to fight for the UFC title, particularly as it is held by the great Anderson Silva. Rockbold should at least have to rematch Jacare and then fight a #1 contender fight.
Melendez - Maybe... Cormier - He deserves a title shot Rockhold - He deserves it a lot, and MW also needs some challengers to the spider Saffiedine - Forget about this title shot... i don't know yet if he deserves be in UFC...
Rockhold Vs Silva and Tarec Vs GSP are not really marketable fights right now so I really doubt they will get shots. Cormier deserves a shot but he won't get one because he does not want to fight Cain.
Melendez should get a title shot. Rockhold and Cormier #1 contender fights. Saffedeine 1 fight against top 10 and then if he wins, a #1 contender fight.
Gil and Cormier are the only two ELITE champions from Strikeforce. Rockhold and Saffediene are good but not up to that level yet.
What has Rockhold done to prove he deserves a title shot? a win against tim kennedy and getting hurt a bunch?
Cormier deserves one. At HW though, not LHW. Gustafsson has earned the next shot at LHW and we've never seen Cormier fight after a weight cut.
