I know its off topic but I'm curious as to what you guys do with your old belts?
My white belt is sitting alone and unloved in a drawer whilst I wear my blue belt

I have seen some coaches display there old belt colours on plaques in there gym and some just leave there old ones in the bottom of there gym bag.

So what do you guys do?

Since we're on the subject -

    1) How do you get your mojo to transfer to the new belt? Do you just put them in a bag together and leave them sealed for a day or so?

    2) Is it ok to wash the old belt now that you have a new one (assuming you have successfully transferred the mojo) or is this still detrimental in some way?

    Thx.

Grand Master David Lang only awarded me the black belt when I tapped him. It made it that much more special than progressing through blue, purple and brown.

Keep them- you don't have many moments from BJJ besides medals, so it's a great reminder of the Journey!

There on the top shelf of my closet. Actually even my current belt (purple) is up there since I usually only do no gi. Not opposed to the gi just like no gi better.

My wife's got all my medals and my white belt stuffed in an old gym bag sitting on a shelf in the laundry room. I'm sure the blue belt will go in there soon too.

Once I've got 2-3 belts in my current rank & would no longer need an old belt even as an emergency spare, I throw them out. Just threw out my purple belts when cleaning up the house this past weekend. Don't even have specific memories of when I got rid of my blues or white belts, but I must have, because they're definetly gone too.

My white belt is sitting in my closet somewhere. Got a belt rack for Christmas so guess I will be hanging them on that someday. My instructor encourages us to give our belts to another student when they reach their rank. He has his old brown belt on the wall in the gym waiting for someone to claim it.

They are very good for tying up things like tarps and such. Make good short ropes, I use them for that.

I'll probably keep them. I haven't kept my Judo belts but for bjj I'll probably keep the blue and white belts since that's what we use to differentiate each other in Judo Comps.

I don't even know what I've done with my old belts. I probably threw them out when I decided I was done with BJJ.

btw, this thread reminds me that I need to buy a new belt.... for BJJ lol. I recently decided to start training again.

My teacher kept mine. It will be given to newbies alongside the armour* when they train for the first time.

First of all, wash your belt. Ringworm doesn't look good on anyone.

I have mine hung up on a rack in my weight room. I look at them and think about my BJJ journey, and how good my purple and brown belts will one day look beside the white and blue ones.
