"Let's build some hurtin' bombs!!!!"

I've always liked how Stallone incorporated realistic (useful) exercises into the Rocky training montages as opposed to showing a professional athlete doing concentration curls or some other equally ghey lift to get ready for a fight.

This movie's montage was particularly pleasing as he was incorporating such favs as Cleans and Overhead presses (315lbs...go Rock! :D ) along with squats, sprints, and the like.

Rocky has singlehandedly proven to America that Powerlifting is the shit. :icon_chee

Well, I suppose that would be true if your average person knew the fucking difference.

BTW, Tarver did and EXCELLENT job in the movie; I had low expectations concerning his acting but was glad to see that he did a damn good job for a silver screen newb.

yep, Rockytraining is anti-metrosexual. Although I dont approve of the ghey outfit he used in rocky 3 when training with apollo.

Agreed.

Yellow Daisy Dukes and knee-high tube socks just don't cut it.

Yeah that montage was very well done and motivational. Made me want to run out and hit the gym. I like how he incorporate the chains and the clean and press as well.

how much is he supposed to weigh?

Is that a SOHP (yes yes, I know its a film people)

Great motivation. As soon as I got out of the theatre I just wanted to train.

Then again, I always just want to train...

that can't be a SOHP....can it......

It was a push press. And he weighed in at 217 for the bout with Dixon.

Im pretty sure that they used... FAKE plates

Quite honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Stallone could push press 315. The plates looked real and his head looked like a beet ready to pop, but that could be movie magic.

Considering his obvious knowledge and application of useful lifts (remember, he writes these movies) and the fact he's been lifting for 30+ years, it would not surprise me one bit if he could toss 315 above his head. If he's crazy enough to let Tarver actually hit him (albeit not full blast), I wouldn't put it past him to film his actual training sessions.

The fight was fake too...

who gives a shit if the plates are fake, the point is he's showing a better way to train then the bodybuilding based routines that people think generate real strength.

Hes so old though...
but he does look SO cranked.

The training scenes were the only good part of that movie, and Tarvers acting..omfg..garbage. His lines had no feeling to them. It was like he was reading off a prompter.

I don't know if anybody noticed, but when he did the clean and press, in the cleaning motion, the bar never touches his shoulders, it comes up and he just holds it with his wrists bent then proceeds to press. Wouldn't that be muderous on your wrists if he were using real plates?

I watched Rocky Four this weekend, or at least part of it-where he and the Russian are training for their fight. Drago cleans a barbell that looks like it is supposed to be in the 400lb range and then slooooooowly and with great effort presses it over his head--the bar and the plates remained perfectly motionless throughout the lift of course.

I noticed that too. The reason I noticed it is because that's how I USED to clean. And yes, my wrists hated me for it.
