Last 3 fights, 2 of his losses were brutal. He’s not a plus athlete. He had 2 subs locked up last night, couldn’t finish. Props to Volk.
But like now what? Fight who exactly after taking two brutal beat downs for the title.
    Can’t move up…can’t move down..
I’m not sure what his team is telling him…3rd time is the charm 3 years from now? I just don’t see a path other than gatekeeper. Prove me wrong?

First things first. Take some time off, heal up, and spend time with his family. The rest will come later.

Why can't he move up? Maybe he can have success at 155.

Those 2 years off he took worked out well his first fight back…haven’t seen his TUF coaching yet.. I don’t see a path or a reason other than high level gatekeeper. He’s not going to hold the gold.

Kinda weird spot for him. The top 2 guys put a fucking beating on him, even though he had his moments vs Volk. Upgrade to 3.0 and keep fighting contenders I guess. Not sure if he could do well at LW, he would have to take a long time off to gain weight properly. Don't do what Max did and go up being undersized and without bulking.

He needs to stop taking such brutal damage in his fights, or his time as a top contender will be short lived.

He's behind two of the absolute best fighters in the world. There's no shame in that. I'm sure he'll keep trying to improve and try to get there one day.

Him and Poirier are about the same size. Poirier is doing quite well. Chandler fights at LW and he's doing quite well too.

Just have him fight a couple of fights of guys ranked 5-10 for now and see how he goes.

I don't care for him too much tbh, but given he walks around at 180ish maybe LW is his future.

Very good question. He's a great fighter, but I feel this loss puts him in a tough spot. I hope he takes his time planning his next move.

In all reality, probably that gatekeeper to the stars role.

He probably serves as a cautionary tale when it’s all said and done. There are certain fighters so talented that they can get really far without tasting adversity and then get even further winning on largely talent without becoming their best self, and he most likely become ones of those guys.

His ability to grab and finish submissions on the fly is maybe the best we’ve seen in mma, and he clearly hits hard and has probably the best frame you could ask for at 145. But he’s a good but not great striker and not even a good wrestler IMO so while he’s improved since the Max assraping, I don’t necessarily think he’s improved in the ways that best compliment his strengths.
