Hungarian women with four children or more will be exempted for life from paying income tax, the prime minister has said, unveiling plans designed to boost the number of babies being born.

It was a way of defending Hungary's future without depending on immigration, Viktor Orban said.

The right-wing nationalist particularly opposes immigration by Muslims.

Hungary's population is falling by 32,000 a year. Women there have fewer children than the EU average.

As part of the measures, young couples will be offered interest-free loans of 10 million forint (£27,400;$36,000), to be cancelled once they have three children.

Mr Orban said that "for the West", the answer to falling birth rates in Europe was immigration: "For every missing child, there should be one coming in and then the numbers will be fine.

"Hungarian people think differently," he said. "We do not need numbers. We need Hungarian children."

Normally I would not agree with this, but given the fact their population is actually going down which is insane given how rare that is anywhere in the world, it might be necessary.

However Orban needs to ask himself why so many people want to leave. Wages are shit in Hungary, just like Romania. Politicians are corrupt on basically every level of government, just like in Romania. A higher population isn't necessarily going to change those things unless they fix their other issues as well.

The Hungarian conservative party is making sense. They don't want their neighborhoods to be overrun with Islam like London. The UK, Germany and Sweden are all having problems with Islamic immigrants and their offspring. Islamic countries are all ruined by Islam, and the west needs to keep them from coming over, bringing their ideals and culture and ruining ours too.

Great idea. I'm sure they don't want muslim immigrants, maybe they'd be fine with others?

Leaders need to ask themselves why the population is dropping in the first place. Why aren't people having children? Why are people leaving?

Instead of incentivizing pregnancies that people would not otherwise want, maybe they should address the core issues and let it happen organically.

    1. In almost all European countries, and elsewhere in the industrialized world, a decrease in completed fertility is observed among women born from the late 1950s.
    2. Honestly, politicians are corrupt everywhere.
However, there is no worst corruption than when our leaders don't care about children and women getting assaulted, raped and killed by invaders.

    Good for them
That's the way to do it. Make it cheaper for people having kids, if you want a stable population.
There are a few towns that have had success with this in Japan. They made it cheap to have kids. After is free up to a point, school is free til 18, and medical is free as well til 18

    America was strongest when:

We promoted marriage, not shacking up and aborting our own babies

When we honored family, the Bible and God

When we honored hard work, not socialism and entitlement

I actually think this is a perfectly fine idea. However, I do agree with everyone who says they need to address why people are leaving and/or not having kids in the 1st place.

If they want to maintain and preserve their population, incentivizing birth rates is a good idea. They're not punishing anyone or denigrating anyone to do it so I don't see a problem.

Of course, it is a massive wealth distribution scheme and I assume the people who are concerned about socialism and giving birth to children that people can't afford will raise the usual arguments.

Your final point is really all we need imo for a healthy society and would take care of your first point. No comment in your second point, to each their own.

But people working with a purpose in a stable environment will produce the society we need.

Problem is people today dont know what work is and they think the employer is lucky to have them rather than the other way around.

The most drastic change to take place in the West is the role of women. Once the guardians of the home and responsible for raising future generations, that's been changed from many thousands of years of tradition in less than a century. No one wants to talk about that tho because it means acknowledging that feminism and gender equality might not the greatest thing for society. In fact, it might be the worst thing imaginable for the future. The kind of politicians and political atmosphere we have in America for instance can really be traced back to universal suffrage.

You take the issue of gun violence for instance. Americans have had guns in their homes since colonial days. People legally owned machine guns throughout the entire 20th century until the late 1980s when the ban was placed, despite a legally owned machine gun never being used in a murder. We didn't have school shooting epidemics until after the Brady Bill and gun bans in the 90s that were supposed to prevent it after a few isolated incidents. Issue isn't guns based on history, it's the breakdown of the family and drastic change in the way kids are raised now.

I'd say Asia is the future. Migrants and the consequences will really come to a ahead when say there is another Great Depression for example and likely by that time they will already ethnically dominate several European nations.

There are a lot of factors but I would like to point out - modernity, the decline of civilization as it goes through its life cycle

Hyper-urbanization and intellectualism turns everything into a rational, materialist problem to be solved. Instead of an animal instinct to procreate, or a society that has a sacred view of the nuclear family and duality of man and woman, we have a civilization that views children as a cost, and wants an objective, scientific answer to the question "why have a family?".

Combine that with young people having an extended adolescence through progressively larger educational hoops as well as access to nigh infinite physical pleasure, and disdain for intimacy... you get declining birth rates.

Because women and men prefer to have fun than to raise children. When you marry and have children you cannot go around dating people on tinder, going to spring breaks or "investing" in traveling. That's among the dumb.
Among the smart you will not be able to get that all important math PhD.

About the socialism part, I think it won't be a problem in Hungary. As I pointed out in another thread, the right there is socialist in that sense. Moreover, people there are all Hungarian, except for the gypsies. It's not like in other countries where one group of people disproportionately uses welfare.

Because it was a communist shithole until 1991 and even with strong GDP growth it's still far behind European countries that have been capitalist their entire history. Since you can freely migrate to these other countries you can make more money there and even send back that money to Hungary.
For example, in 1991, using current values, Hungary GDP per capita was 3,349 vs 19,900 in the UK, almost 6x difference. Now it's 16,000 vs 44,000, it's still a substantial difference but it's less than 3x difference.
