Opera is the only browser that works well on my computer

Isn't that some shit? And I can't figure out why either.

But Chrome and Firefox both run sluggishly, regularly freeze up, etc. And this right after a fresh OS install.

This computer's gone through a lot of changes over the years, including a CPU upgrade, RAM upgrades, multiple hard drives, and four different operating systems. But I will be goddamned if browsers just don't run well.

Opera is the only one that doesn't give me any problems. Anyone else use it?

I have a 6yr old toshiba laptop running a skeleton Win7 'ultimate'. 120gb solid state and 8gigs of ram.

I use Firefox. Everything works fine on it (newest versions of everything except utorrent).

Throw on Ubuntu or Linux Mint.

Chromium.

Profit.

Firefox + Ad Block Plus + NoScript is good

Maybe I'll try that. Not sure what the deal is with Firefox, but it constantly freezes for brief moments and then comes back to life. And like I said, this is right after a fresh install of the OS.

Opera's working great, though. I actually never have understood why Opera wasn't considered one of the major browsers, along with IE/Firefox/Chrome.

either hardware or user error if "fresh" install.

I miss Opera's stacked browser tabs.

Clean install from disc to a newly formatted hard drive.

And if hardware, what? The motherboard? Everything else has been switched out.

Opera's always had some interesting features that were kind of ahead of its time.

Interestingly, it was also the last major browser to support Windows 98.

Did you install drivers? Specifically, chipset/motherboard drivers, SATA (or god forbid your PC is that old, IDE) drivers, video?
Run a memtest on your RAM, that's always a good place to start.

No can do. I gotta be able to run Premiere Pro.

But I appreciate the suggestion.

No problem, one thing to note though is if you are running a Linux distro you can always use "Wine" to run windows software. Hope you can find a solution because Opera is crap lol. Good luck!

Firefox + Ad Block Plus + NoScript + Privacy Badger is even better

I've used Privacy Badger and Noscript before, but I just use Ad Block plus now. What is better about using Noscript and Privacy Badger? I didn't really notice a difference.

Privacy Badger unlike Ad Block plus doesn't use a black list meaning it operates on its own code to decide what domains are collecting your personal information. The one thing I like about Noscript is that it forces the user to decide whether or not they want to run JavaScript, Java, Flash, Silverlight, and other plugins as they are blocked by default unless they are part of a whitelist. Back to Privacy Badger, it currently doesn't work with the newest version of Firefox but should be updated soon enough. Having just Ad Block plus is fine, only add the other two if you are extremely anal about privacy

For me these are the Add-ons for Firefox I suggest everyone have installed by default

Adblock Plus
Flagfox - Tells what country a website is currently located from and has a lot of other features
Google Search By Image - Adds a google image search to the right click menu while clicking an image
Privacy Badger
Session Manager - Allows you to save the current Firefox session for later
Download Status Bar - Puts downloads in the status bar on the bottom plus is feature rich in regards to downloads
Close Tabs to the left - Also gives you the option to close tabs on the left instead of just the right

Cool Thanks. I do remember that about noscript now. I found it kind of irritating actually. I think once it updates I'll eventually run Privacy Badger again though.

I've used Opera in the past when running Linux, particularly Puppy Linux. Currently, my work computer runs Win 7, and I have Win 10 on my home desktop. Chrome has been my primary browser for a while because I the Google Voice extension is vital for me.

Opera ran great with Linux. I haven't used Linux on a desktop for a little while, but I've been thinking of getting back to using it.

I run Lubuntu and Firefox only takes up about 700 mb of Ram.

You might wanna try disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox and it might be smoother.

What are the specs on your computer, is it a desktop?
